Hansel & Gretel's Fat Old Witch

I found a whole coloring book of ridiculous witches, called "Fat Old Witches" and I was laughing so hard as I went through them, I simply had to buy the entire book of them.  When I saw the expression on the face of this particular witch, I immediately thought of the double sentiment about Hansel and Gretel.  The company selling the set is called LovelyJPG.

This one is pre-colored.  I was so excited about using it right away, I didn't even take the time to print it in grayscale to color it myself.  I will do that with some of the others but for now, I wanted to post this as soon as possible.  lol

I cut the image with a QuicKutz die and rounded the corners with a Fiskars punch.  I inked the edges with a black ink pad.  I found scraps of two Halloween papers from a Recollections stack and used them for the background.  The sentiments were printed and cut with an Avery Elle die, then matted with black glitter CS scraps.

A Night of Witches

One more Conjurer of Dreams witch, this one printed in grayscale and colored with my old ProMarkers.  I'm slowly shifting over to Ohuhu markers but I do love my ProMarkers and tend to grab them for certain projects.  My love affair with ProMarkers is more than a decade old but I wish they had brush tips and when I want brush tips, I go to my Ohuhus.

Once colored, I cut the image with a large die from QuicKutz, then added a white frame because I knew I was going to put it against a dark background and I wanted the image to pop off the background.  I printed the sentiment onto the white frame before I cut it.  The background is dp from a Recollections Halloween stack.  I added no embellishments of any kind since I figured the dp was more than enough.  So, a really CAS card design that doesn't look CAS.

Witches and Spells

I'm playing along in the Progressive Challenge at Moondrea Designs each month and this is the image given for October.  Isn't she a fabulous witch?  Colored with Ohuhu markers and cut with a Tonic Studios die, then the corners were done with a punch from Recollections.

The blue background was textured with my Linen EF.  The sentiment was printed and cut with an Avery Elle die.  The bow was made with white ribbon, dyed purple with a marker, then hand sewn.  A tiny half-pearl was added to the bow.

Colors were pulled from the Outlawz Tuesday challenge.

Wicked Witch of the West?

OK, I know I've done mostly Christmas cards all month long, but as I was clearing the larger scraps off my workspace and sorting them into manila folders for future use, I ran across these Halloween die cuts.  They were all by themselves in a folder and, once opened, they refused to be shut away again.  So, on threat of some horrible magic potion or vicious curse, I agreed to turn them into a card right then and there.

This card is made completely from die cuts and scraps.  The witch and the sentiment words are all from Cheery Lynn dies.  The background dp behind the witch is a scrap from an old (old, old, old!) DCWV stack.  I found the mat behind the "Happy" in another folder and fussy cut it, layered it onto the side of the card, trimmed the edge with a simple straight cut, and added the word 'Happy' so that the complete sentiment read 'Happy Halloween.'

A really fast and easy card that took less than 15 minutes!  Nothing like keeping the witch happy.  :-D

Most Magical Time November Challenge

Here we are on the first Friday of November and that means another new challenge at Most Magical Time of the Year where we celebrate both Christmas and Halloween all year around.  Our sponsor this month is All Dressed Up and they supplied the cutest images for us to use.  I chose to use both images (Christmas Tree Fairy and Magical Day) and make two cards.  Our theme is "Magical Fall Colors."

Both are colored with watercolors but Christmas Tree Fairy has glitter on her wings and is cut with a QuicKutz die.  Unfortunately, when I photographed the Fairy card, the orange colors I used look more red than orange.

The Magical Day image and the lavender frame are cut with dies from Dare 2B Artzy.  The background paper on the Christmas Tree Fairy card is from a K & Co. stack.  The bow is hand-tied using orange and gold corded ribbon.

The Magical Day card has one of my signature, hand-sewn bows made with sheer ribbon and a pearl.  The background on that one is from DCWV and the pumpkin & flowers are heat embossed with sparkly EP.

Green Witch ATC

After doing Halloween cards all month, I got inspired to do an ATC.  I went a little bit fancy on the to of it instead of just the normal straight edge but nobody has accused me of being "normal," at least not lately.  :-D

The green witch has been colored with ProMarkers and gel pens.  The sentiment was printed and then cut with an Avery Elle die.  No embellishments; I wanted that evil witch to be the focus.

Night of the Witch

Today I'm featuring two images from my beloved Bugaboo Stamps.  I was so disappointed when they closed their doors but at least I can still use their wonderful stamps.  I had both this darling witch image and the image of a cat under the moon so I thought they would be wonderfully cute if merged together.

I colored the images with ProMarkers and added highlights with a gel pen.  I cut the image and the frame layers with QuicKutz dies.  The card front was dry embossed with a "Branches" Sizzix EF.  I hand tied a triple-loop bow from stitched ribbon, then printed, matted, and fussy cut the sentiment.

This is also my Day 26 entry for the
LeighSBDesigns 31 Days of Halloween Blog Hop.

     Challenges:

Halloween is only a few days away now so get your cards finished quickly!  Then we can all focus on Thanksgiving and Christmas for the rest of the year.  Oh, my, where did this year go?!  It can't be almost over, can it?

Kitty Spells

I have 2 posts today and this is the first of them.  All this week I'll be doing posts for the 31 Days of Halloween at LeighSBDesigns (which I've been playing each day in the month of October) and for the Cat Lovers Hop 2022.  Check the post above this one to see the Cat Lovers card, although this card would have worked for that challenge too.

The image is from Colour of Love and I colored it with water color paints, highlighted with gel pens and a gold paint pen.  I cut the image with a Tonic Studios die.  The sentiment is fussy cut and the background was made by piecing together scraps of paper from the basket.

Vintage Pumpkin Witch

I've used 3 other vintage Halloween images this month but those were all from Lilli Rin and this one is from Taylor Made.  I've already entered the Taylormadecards4u challenge this month but I still wanted to share this card.

The image is pre-colored and I cut it to size with my Fiskars paper cutter.  The polka dot ribbon is from Really Reasonable Ribbon and the small pumpkin is fabric.  Pretty CAS design on this card.

Something Wicked

It's Day 21 in the month long Halloween challenge at LeighSBDesigns and so far I've managed to play each day.

This is also my Day 21 entry for the
LeighSBDesigns 31 Days of Halloween Blog Hop.

I started with an svg from Silhouette Store on white CS.  I cut it with a QuicKutz die and mounted it onto periwinkle CS, also cut with a QuicKutz die.  I used purple CS for the card front (my favorite color in any season!)  Once everything was layered together, I added a sheer bow with pearl and a row of purple gemstones for embellishment.

Fly a Broom

When I saw the expression on this young witch's face, I exploded in laughter!  She's so clearly annoyed about something or by someone, I knew for sure she was thinking unfriendly thoughts.  Hence, the sentiment.  :-D

I colored her with ProMarkers and water colors, then cut the image with a QuicKutz die.  The sentiment was printed and cut with an Avery Elle die.  The background paper is from a DCWV stack and is both embossed and sparkly.  The bow is one of my hand-sewn, signature bows, this time with a white pearl.

Wynona Witch

Here's my second post for today and my DT card features a delightful image from Conie Fong called "Wynona Pumpkin Kitty."  It's a new release and it's also ON SALE !!

I colored the image with ProMarkers and water color paints, then cut it with a pinpoint die from Memory Box.  The background dp came from Taylor Made.  I love the pumpkins on it.  :-D  I added one of my signature bows, sewn with a pearl this time.  As is my usual procedure, I make these from white ribbon and then I 'dye' them with a ProMarker to be whatever color I need for the particular card design.

     Challenges:

Come play in our challenges at Conie Fong's FB site.  You must use a Conie Fong image but you can enter either hand colored images or completed projects (cards, journal pages, scrapbook pages, etc.)  You could win some really sweet Conie Fong images.  Don't have any CF images to use to enter?  Check out the freebies available and use one of those.

It's All about the Candy Corn!

When I was a kid, Halloween was all about the candy corn (my whole family called it "Corn Candy," don't ask me why) and I waited all year long for the Trick or Treat night which would reap at least 2 good portions of the luscious treat, more if luck was on my side.

This adorable Candy Corn Witch from Jan's Digi Stamps was merged with a candy corn border which is part of the set.  The sentiment also comes in the set.  I used the pre-colored image this time and cut the image with a framing die from Spellbinders.  I mounted that on top of polka dot dp from Your Next Stamp and called it finished.  It's a CAS card which looks fancy and complicated.

When Witches Fly

I'm a total fan of Beccy's Place images and love trying new things with them.  I've used this fun flying witch silhouette (which may now be retired since I can't find it in the store) several times but this is the first time I've fussy cut it with scissors and used it with various Halloween die cuts.

I printed the silhouette on white CS, then cut it with small scissors, leaving a very narrow, white rim around the witch.  That helped her to stand out from the background.  The background was done with water colors.  The moon and the two largest bats on the moon were cut with a die from Die-Versions.  The smallest bat on the moon and the 2 in the sky were cut using an Impression Obsession die.  The sentiment was cut with an Avery Elle die.  I used a gray ProMarker to make the shadows on the moon.

Screechy Witch

This fun but spooky witch is a freebie image from the Beccy's Place challenge this month and it's just too good to miss!  I was also invited to be a Guest Designer for the Tic  Tac Toe Challenge and the Board for this challenge looks like this:

and here's my card using the top row of Sparkle/ Embossing/ Any shape die:

Everything was made using scraps, including the CS on which I printed the image.  I colored the witch with my ProMarkers, giving her skin a slight greenish tinge and making the band on her hat a dirty purple so that you know it's as old as she is and had never been cleaned.  lol

The black paper with the bats was cut with a Cheery Lynn doily die.  I stamped the bats with Versamark ink and heat embossed them with shiny gold EP.  The pumpkins (Die-namics die) were heat embossed with glitter EP and I added yellow Stickles to the faces.  It was fun getting both the sparkle and the embossing done with embossing powder.  :-D

If you've never played at Tic Tac Toe Challenge before, this would be a great week to start!  Hope to see you there.  NanaConnie

Time to Ride the Broom

This is my second post of the day (scroll down 1 post to see the first) and I've done a DT card for the mid-month reminder post at Your Scrapbook Place.  Our sponsor is Moon Flower and the image I used is called "Gina Little Witch."

Colored with ProMarkers and gel pens, then cut with a Spellbinders die.  Both pieces of the sentiment were cut with Avery Elle dies.  I used a short scrap of purple ribbon and added ne of my signature, hand-sewn bows.  Everything was layered onto a simple background made from black and orange CS.

      Challenges:

If you haven't played in our "Anything Goes"  challenge this month, you still have until the 29th to get something entered.  We love seeing what you've created.  Happy Crafting.  NanaConnie

Cutest Witch Ever !

It's almost the end of September and we've started my favorite season of the year, Autumn!  Why is it my favorite?  Because the miserably hot summer temperatures are dropping, the leaves are changing colors, the kids are headed back to school, and now nobody questions the Halloween cards I've been making all year round !  lol

That being true, it's time for me to share another of my DT cards for Conie Fong.  The image is called "Witchy Broomstick Gnome" and she's on sale for a few more days.  If you love her as much as I do, go to the store (click the name above) and grab her before she's full price.  :-D

I used ProMarkers to color her and her happy little kitten, and then cut the image with a CUTplorations stitched die.   I put everything on a black card base which made the image and the ribbon pop.  The sentiment was 'stitched' to match the die for the image.  The diamond-pattern ribbon is from Really Reasonable Ribbon and I pulled some sheer ribbon from my stash to make the quad-loop bow.

     Challenges:

Don't forget you still have 6 days to color one of Conie Fong's images and enter either our Coloring Only challenge or our Completed Projects challenge.  You could win Conie Fong images as your prize.  Come play with us!

Tall & Skinny Halloween

I haven't done much with the new trend of 'tall and skinny' cards but this particular Halloween image was clearly perfect for such a design.  This is another image printed in grayscale and mailed to me by a friend who is keeping me supplied following the crash of the thumb drive which held all 9000 of my digi images.  Sigh...

I'm discovering that printing a pre-colored image in grayscale, and then coloring it yourself, makes one look like a real artist because all the shading and highlights are in the grayscale.  Whatever you do, the shading shows you exactly where to add other tones of the colors you chose to use.  Even if you add  only a single layer of color with no shading of your own, they look fabulous because of the grayscale shadows.

Because this wicked witch also has a cat, I get to use this card for Day 3 at the 2020 Cat Lovers Hop.

Colored w ProMarkers
Gel inks for white highlights
Sentiment cut w Avery Elle die
Inked edges on both image & sentiment
Background dp from Making Memories
Hand tied bow used satin-edged, sheer ribbon

     Challenges:
(orange, yellow, green, brown, black, + no bats, & Paper Girls)
Two Old Bats

I keep telling you that I've finished all the Halloween cards but this time, I think I really mean it.  I've mailed all the ones which go to out-of-state grandkids & great-grands, the ones for local family are also finished plus the ones done on commission have been picked up so this should be the last.

Still hoping to see you at the Cat Lovers Hop.  Happy Crafting.  NanaConnie

Witches on Broomsticks

In this miserable, record-breaking, heat wave, you may not realize that the spooky, chilled night of  Halloween is right around the corner, card-making-wise.   But I'm on it!  I think this is my second Halloween card of the season and I have at least 3 more images printed and waiting.  :-D

This image is an old one from Angie's Antics.  I haven't seen anything new from her in quite a long time so they may be out of business altogether.  But their stuff is always fun, regardless.

I used colors from My Favorite Things.

Colored w/ ProMarkers and blending chalks
Cut w/ QuicKutz die

Crafty Chefs

Today I'm doing another card using the next recipe from Crafty Chefs.  This is a group of crafters who want to stretch their "comfort zone" a bit by following a recipe with both "must do" and "can do" items on it.  There is a FB page for the group (click on the name above) and we'd love to have you join us if this sounds interesting.

There are very few 'rules' and no prizes, no deadlines, no drama - just the fun of participating and doing something you may not have done before or you don't do regularly.  Check out the FB page and become part of the group.  Later, you can decide if you want to add yourself to the rotation for making up the recipe for a month.

Vicki created the recipe for August and it is:

MUST DO:
1.  Die cut (or electronic machine like Cricut)
2.  Interactive (More than 1 fold, eg: gate fold, easel, slider, etc.)  Check out Vicki's Youtube video.
3.  Specialty paper (vellum, glitter, foil, etc.)
4.  Ribbon/twine/or raffia

CAN DO:
1.  Color an image
2.  Add 3 of something
3.  Add glitter/sparkle

I watched Vicki's video and followed her well explained and easy steps to make my card.  I did change the size of my card so that it was 4 1/4 " square when folded (8 1/2 x 8 1/2 starting size) and I made the envelope for it.  I decided on a Halloween theme partly because Vicki had done a Christmas theme and partly because I wanted to color up this cute image from LeAnn's World.

I did use all the MUST DO items plus all the CAN DO items.  :-D  Here's the finished card when folded up:

and when opened up:

Outside:
Colored w/ ProMarkers
Cut w/ Unbranded, stitched die
Gold glitter paper
Sheer ribbon wrapped on top of gold paper and under image
Sentiment printed & cut w/ Unbranded die

Inside:
"Chenille" paper (it's actually fuzzy)
"Halloween" sentiment is a button
Bats die cut from foam (Die-namics)
"Pearl" CS for card base

     Challenges:

Happy Crafting and we do hope you'll come and join our FB group!   NanaConnie
