New Way to Roller Skate

My daughter called and asked me to make a Get Well card for a neighbor of hers who fell while roller skating with her grandkids.  She has a serious hip break and it'll take a while for her to heal up completely.   Much as I would love to take credit for the sentiment, when my daughter saw this image in my collection, she suggested a reference to roller skating.  lol

The image is from QKR Stampede and I colored it with ProMarkers & water color pencils.  I cut the image with a stitched die from Memory Box, and I inked the edges of it before adhering it to the background.  The background piece was cut and embossed with a plate die from Poppystamps.  I inked the edges of that so that I had little pops of red in the image, around the cut image, and around the edge of the background.  I did the same with the sentiment which I printed and cut with an Avery Elle die.  Inside it has a simple, "Get Well Soon."

Bouquet of Angels

I spent most of the afternoon yesterday making this card for one of the Deacons of our church who was hospitalized unexpectedly last week.  I dug into my collection of Eureka Stamps and found this beautiful angel image and both of the sentiments, outside and inside the card.

I colored the angel with my Sanjoki markers, keeping it simple (in the interests of getting it done right away) and found a sentiment about Bouquets of Angels which seemed to fit her perfectly.  I cut the image with a die from Tonic Studios and layered her onto a background of blue CS, trimmed to fit the card front.

No embellishments - it is a card for a guy, after all.

I did finish the inside with a decorated sentiment but
since I had already signed all the family names to it, I didn't photograph it.
The sentiment says, "With God, all things are possible and
we're praying you recover soon."

Cat Smiles to Get Well

It's another new challenge at I Love ProMarkers, the first one of the new year.  Our theme this time is "Get Well" and we are sponsored by Ike's Art.  I adore this cat (my favorite kind of animal), called "Cat Smiles" and you can find it in the section under 'Animals' on her site.

I colored the image with my ProMarkers (of course), then cut the image with a long rectangle die from QuicKutz.  I rounded the corners with a punch from Uchida.  The pink frame and the plaid dp (Lawn Fawn) were cut with dies from Spellbinder.  The sentiment was also cut with a Spellbinders' die but trimmed along the bottom so that it wouldn't hang over the edge.  All the pink CS is from Park Lane.  The butterfly is made by sewing machine embroidery.

Getting Well Quickly

This is the Monday when the new challenge starts at Jan's Digi Stamps!   As usual, our theme is Anything Goes.  You are not required to use a JDS stamp but if you do, your entry will go into a separate draw only for entries using one of Jan's digistamps.  That increases your chance of winning by a huge amount!

My DT card today was done as a Get Well card for my granddaughter after her car accident in early December.  She fine - no worry!  She did spend a few days in the hospital under observation because she had some very severe bruises, including one to her liver, several to her ribs and collarbone, and she had a small laceration to her spleen.  They kept her under observation, hoping surgery would not be necessary and it turned out it wasn't.  She still has a ways to go for a complete recovery (maybe even a few months), but she's home.

Her car will have to be replaced since it was totaled by the insurance company.  That breaks my heart because her car had been my car before she bought it from me, and it was her first car.  She worked 3 different jobs during her high school years and saved every penny of her paychecks, intending to buy her first car without any help from family.  When I  decided that I was ready to sell mine, she had saved enough to be able to make an offer and we did the deal.  She loved that little car as much as I did.  :-D

This fun image is from the Jan's Digi Stamps set called "Get Well Friends."

Colored w ProMarkers
Cut w Spellbinders die
Sentiment printed & hand cut

I also want to tell you about a fun "challenge-yourself" idea being promoted by my blogging buddy, V.  It's called "Just Stash January" and it involves using nothing but things already in your stash throughout the entire month of January!  There are a few reasonable exceptions (all of which mean that no money has come out of your pocket) and you can read about those on her post.  Just click on the link and find out all about it, then start counting those coins and bills you'll be 'stashing' in your pocket this month instead of crying about even more charges on the credit cards after the holiday season.  :-D  Everything on this card came from the stash!

I've done a Get Well card using a House Mouse image and I have no doubt it'll get used rather quickly although, at the moment, it's in my stash.  Cold season is just around the corner and I've learned those can go through the entire household very quickly (and predictably!)

Here it is, another Friday and that means a new challenge starts at QKR Stampede.  Our theme is always "Anything Goes" and you can use any image from any company.  However, if you use a QKR image (or one from their sister company, Eureka Stamps), your entry will be put into a separate draw, increasing your chances of a win by a huge amount!

I did a Get Well card this week, using "Racing 13601" as the image.

Bandaged Cat

Welcome to our newest weekly challenge at QKR Stampede where our theme is always "Anything Goes."  There's no requirement to use images from QKR (or from our sister company, Eureka Stamps) but for those of you who do use them, you increase your chances of winning by a huge amount since those entries go into a completely separate drawing so your odds are much better.  :-D

The image I used today is from QKR and it's called "Bandaged Cat."  Every time I use this image, I can hear my dad in my head talking about someone being "as nervous as a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs!"  lol  Now you know why!

I used my ProMarkers to color the cat, then cut the image with a die from Lawn Fawn.  I cut the blue frame with a Cottage Cutz die.  The shiny, metallic background was cut with an Altenew die and everything is layered onto a smoke-blue card base.

I printed and hand cut the sentiment, matted it with a scrap of blue CS, and added that below the image.  Because I used this as a masculine, get-well card, I didn't add any further embellishment.  I thought the texture of the layers and the die cuts was enough.

I'm hoping that by next week, I'll be back to my regular routine but if it takes another week, please trust that I will be back.  I haven't abandoned my crafting nor my blogging.  I just need to get settled in again after all the recent changes.  Thanks for your patience.  :-D  NanaConnie

It's a Booboo !

I found myself having to make a couple of quick Get Well cards and used an image from QKR Stampede to make each one.  I'm sharing this one today and will share the other next Friday as my DT inspirations for those two QKR Challenges.  As always, our theme is "Anything Goes."

The image is called "Booboo" and I think it's adorable.  Not the first time I've used it, but when it's this cute, who can resist?

I colored with ProMarkers and a touch of sparkle gel ink on the tear, then cut the image with a die from Memory Box.  I cut the frame from dark pink CS with a QuicKutz die.  The sentiment was printed, hand cut, and matted.

Chicken Soup

I needed a quick Get Well card and had this cute image by Sandra Caldwell which I'd never used before so it seemed the perfect time.

I took my colors from House of Cards.

I colored with my ProMarkers and Copics, fussy cut the image and layered it onto some striped dp to give a 'wallpaper' look to the background.  I added a die cut frame (Cheery Lynn), a bow and a flower plus the sentiment and called it finished.

Get Well Puppy

A new challenge starts at Tuesday Throwdown today and, sadly, this is my last week on the DT over there.  I started with Tuesday Throwdown in the late spring of 2011, took a short break in 2014, and have enjoyed every moment there.  The team is such a wonderful group of crafty women; warm, helpful, and so supportive & loving.  I'll miss every one of them.  BTW, they're looking for a couple of new team members so, if you think you might be interested, leave me a comment below and I'll forward your name and blog info to them.

Our theme this week is "For a Child" and our sponsor is Digital Delights.  I used one of their images which I had in my own collection and I thought it was perfect as a get well card for a child.

I did a very CAS design, cutting the image and the offset blue mat with my stitched square dies from Cheery Lynn Designs.  The chair is supposed to be red but it came out more sienna in the photograph.  The stitched ribbon was in my stash and the polka dot ribbon for the bow was a left over piece I found in my "ready-to-toss-out" basket.  There was just enough to make that small bow, which is fine because, truth be told, I like small bows best.  Small bows leave more room for the image to be the main focus and the card is flatter for mailing.

     Challenges:

That's it for me, signing off from Tuesday Throwdown.  Goodbye to all the friends I've made at Tuesday Throwdown over the years, those still on the team and those who have come and gone before this.  I'll be around blogland and will come play in the challenges whenever possible.  Love you all !  Happy Stamping.  NanaConnie

Basset Hound Says Get Well

New challenge starts this morning at Tuesday Throwdown and we're sponsored by our very own Crafty Girl.  Our theme is "Under the Weather" so we want to see Get Well cards.  I'm sure every one of you knows someone with a sniffle or dose of the flu so make a card to cheer them up.

I chose to use Crafty Girl's "Bassett Hound" because that facial expression just screamed love and concern.  :-D

He's colored with my ProMarkers and fussy cut, then adhered to the black CS with dimensional dots.  Unfortunately, that doesn't show very well in the photo but IRL, it's great.  All the cardstock and dp pieces are scraps from the bin that had to be used or tossed.  It was just waaay too full.

I used as many as I could reasonably get on the card without it being too much.  For embellishment, I chose to keep it pretty simple and used only the ribbon with the paw prints and bones because it seemed to fit with the image.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you're going to play in the challenge at Tuesday Throwdown this week.  We'd love to be inspired by what you create.  :-D  Happy Stamping.  NanaConnie

Get Well Dragon

I have no idea why this image from The East Wind made me think of a "Get Well" card; maybe it was the potion bottle that made me think of  'a teaspoon of medicine?'  :-D  Whatever it was, I love the dragon and I know a granddaughter who will love it, too, so I'll have a get well card in the stash if she gets sick this winter.

My sketch came from Outlawz Sketch Challenge,
turned sideways.

I colored the image (using a favorite blue and purple color combo) with a combination of ProMarkers and Copics and, although it doesn't show, I added sparkle gel ink to the bottle.  The image is cut with a framing die from Spellbinders and the polka dot blue mat is also die cut.  I layered that onto a deep purple CS, then added the sparkly striped ribbon.  I used that same ribbon to tie the bow with my Craft-Dee BowZ bow maker.  Finally, I added the sentiment.  Can you believe everything was done with scraps from my stash, including the ribbon?

     Challenges:
A Gem of a Challenge (polka dots on the blue dp and stripes in the ribbon)

Get Well Wishes

QKR Stampede has a new challenge today, its first of the New Year, and the theme is everyone's favorite, "Anything Goes."  I admit this card was inspired by my son-in-law's broken leg a few weeks ago.  The image and sentiment can be found here:  Digi 9403 "Ski Accident" and Digi 9105 "MamaSaid."

I can't tell you how much fun it was to color this image; I used my ProMarkers and a couple of shades of gray from my remaining collection of Copics.  I kept it all very simple since I wanted a CAS design on a masculine card.   I layered kraft and deep blue CS to mat the image and added brads to two of the corners.

     Challenges:
613 Avenue Create
Card Mania
Crazy Challenge
Creative Card Crew
Inspiration Destination
Not Just Cards
Robyn's Fetish
Scrapper's Delights

I hope your New Year was terrific and that you survived the cold temperatures if your celebration took you outside.  Did you watch the Rose Parade or any football games?  At least those were good, inside-where-it's warm activities.  :-D  Come play with us at QKR this week, won't you?  Happy Stamping.  NanaConnie

Please just ignore the annoying Verification thingy.  You can write and post your comment without entering anything in the box (at least until Blogger decides to change that, too.)  Thank you.

Get Well Cat

As soon as I saw this digi from QKR Stampede, I thought about a saying my dad always used.  "You're as spooky as a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs!"  I think this is perfect for a Get Well card, don't you?

I used the sketch from Sunday Sketch & Stamp.

I colored the image with my favorite ProMarkers.  It's die cut  and matted with inked edges to make it look a bit distressed.  The paper is from Colorbok and both ribbons came from Really Reasonable Ribbon.  I did the faux stitching with a white gel pen.

     Challenges:
Send a Smile 4 Kids
Suzy Bee's Bloomin'

I hope you got a smile from this one.  Happy Stamping.  NanaConnie

Escaping the Doctors

A week or so ago, I told you how much I dearly love the bears from QKR Stampede (challenge theme: dies or punches) and today I'm using another one for a Get Well card.  I hope this brings a smile to your face.

My design sketch came from the CASE card at
AAA Cards and it has to be CAS.
I tried to stick with the colors, too, but dulled my background pink quite a bit.

I colored the bear with ProMarkers, then die cut the image with a square die and used a corner punch on all 4 corners.  The background piece I made myself, using an old piece of plastic netting (like you get with a fruit or vegetable bag) and coloring across it with the chisel tip of the ProMarkers.  Aside from the fact that I wanted something close to the background on the CASE card, I really like that effect and will use it again, I'm sure.  That piece is also die cut and punched.

I dry embossed the brown CS strip with the "Lattice" folder from SU.  The sentiment is my own, printed with a computer font.  My only embellishment on this CAS card is the die cut swirl in the lower corner.  No ribbon, no twine, no string, no flowers, no gems or pearls -- I think I'm finally getting the hang of CAS!!  :-D

     Challenges:
A Creative Romance -- 1 for the boys
Artistic Inspirations -- Dies or punches
Come and Get It -- Bingo: Texture/ Free/ No dp
Fan-Tastic Tuesday -- 1 for the guys
Glitter n Sparkle -- For men or male colors
Graph'It -- Warm colors
Papertake Weekly -- Ooh, so cute!
Speedy Fox & Friends -- No design paper
Wags 'n Whiskers -- 1 for the boys

Well, this was fast and simple so you did get a post today after all.  :-D  Happy Stamping.  NanaConnie
