Party Barn

This is for the last day of the 10th Birthday Celebration at Catch the Bug challenge where the overall theme has been "Down on the Farm."  Each day there has been a different challenge with a different theme and today Bugaboo Stamps gave away a freebie which can be used with today's photo theme (see below.)  You have until the 20th to get all your daily entries done and posted.  Here's a link to the FREEBIE.

I used it, plus a barn from a set by Jan's Digi Stamps.  The party got so huge they had to move it outside the barn!

Here's the inspiration photo and I based my card on the sketch at Cheerful Sketches.

I also used ALL the colors from the Tic Tac Toe board at
although I muted the Sangria on the barn doors.

Party Hardy

Day 6, the next to the last day of the week long 10th Birthday celebration at Catch the Bug.  Each day there's a new challenge with a different theme and today we have Colors.  The overall theme is "Down on the Farm" and Bugaboo Stamps has a whole bunch of fun, new, farm animal stamps.  This cute little Party Pig was a freebie (only on Tuesday) but it's still available in the store.  Tomorrow (Friday) there will be another freebie so be sure to check the blog then.

Here's the colors.

Colored with ProMarkers
Cut with QuicKutz dies
2 shades of green CS, embossed with 'Linen' folder for texture
Green, polka dot, grosgrain ribbon
(Back story - I bought that ribbon because it reminded me of a green, polka dot, Easter hat which I had as a child.  I loved that hat, mostly because it was the first hat I ever had, and I kept it in my closet for at least 5 years, refusing to give it up even when it clearly didn't fit any more. The memory makes me smile.)

Birthday Favor Box

It's Day 3 at Catch the Bug's 10th Birthday and because it's Monday, the theme is the usual "Anything But a Card" so I did small party favor boxes.  These can be filled with candies and given to the party goers as something to take home with them.  The one I photographed was made specifically for the birthday boy with an additional sentiment.  The favor boxes are 2" x2" x1" deep.

The image is Bugaboo Stamps' new "Hay There" horse.

Has anyone noticed how birthdays always feel like a whole new beginning to a child, especially one turning 10 or 13 - the magic of seeing double digits or being a teen - but they stop feeling like a new beginning when you are facing the 50s, 60s, 70s, and beyond?  lol

10th Birthday Week at Catch the Bug

It's time for Bugaboo Stamps to celebrate their 10th year and there are daily challenges at Catch the Bug all week long.  Projects must be Birthday themed and follow the specific daily theme.  Today it's a Down on the Farm Birthday.  The image is from their new Down on the Farm set. which includes all kinds of farm animals and a farmer.  :-D

I started blogging 9 years ago, right after Bugaboo celebrated their 1st birthday. They were the first digis I ever saw (or bought) and they quickly became favorites of mine.  Don't ask me to pick just one favorite - in this case, I have to claim every Bugaboo image I ever got (and that's close to 1,000 by now!) is now a favorite.

I guess you could say this card is for someone who's "As Happy as a Pig in Mud" to be celebrating another birthday.  :-D

We are celebrating our 5th Birthday with quite a collection of fabulous prizes.  Starting today and ending on Saturday, July 28 (our actual 'birthday') there will be 1 daily winner and 4 super winners on Saturday.  I have a prize which I've donated for the daily winner today.  I'm giving away a Spellbinders die set, "Romantic Rose" (see photo at end of post) which will be mailed to the winner.  Just leave a comment here on my post and on the Birthday Bash post over at Challenges for Days, and you could be the winner of today's prize.

The image is from Conie Fong and I colored it with ProMarkers.  I cut the image with a die from Sue Wilson and the green framing was cut with another Sue Wilson die.  Even the butterfly is a Sue Wilson die.   I added rows of pearls to the corner and printed the sentiment, matted it, and adhered it below the image.

Birthday Cupcakes

I love cupcakes as birthday cakes!  It saves having to cut a large cake, makes decorating so much easier, and eliminates all the fights between kids (and adults?) over who gets the frosting flower.  lol

This cupcake is the image from Limited Runs for their Progressive Challenge this month.

I used the sketch at Try Stampin' on Tuesday.

I used ProMarkers to color the cupcake, then cut it with a die from Spellbinders.  The background started as a left over scrap of pink CS which was cut with my Lattice die (Spellbinders.)  The five narrow strips of dp are also scraps.

The sentiment was printed, hand cut, and inked on the edges.   I found two scraps of pink ribbon in my stash basket, used one to wrap around the card front and the other one to tie a bow.  I really hope I can get more of that ribbon because I really like the way it looks and it was a dream working with it.

Party Hardy Bird

This poor bird (Birthday Bird 02 from Bugaboo Stamps) looks a bit like he's partied waaaay too long or is just too old to care about birthdays any more.  :-D  I've done this one as a Guest DT for Catch the Bug and we have a new challenge starting today.  Our theme is a color palette which I'll add just below the photo of my card.

Colors

I colored with a combo of ProMarkers and gel inks, then used some border dies from Spellbinders to cut the image.  I thought that gave the image a great shape and some interesting visual texture with the lacy bits along the sides.

The striped dp was a scrap in my stash and the sheer, green, ribbon seemed to work well with both the embroidered dragonfly and the dp.  That card front was already so 'busy' I didn't want to add anything else to it.

Day 6 Catch the Bug Birthday Challenges

We're getting down to the end of the week long, daily challenges at Catch the Bug and the theme today is a recipe: Kraft, Ribbon, and Bold Colors.  I decided on birthday party invitations this time and have made a dozen.  There's room inside for all the What, When, and Where info, all of which can be filled in by hand.

I colored the Bugaboo image with my ProMarkers, then die cut it and the sentiment with plain oval dies from Spellbinders.  I inked the edges of each oval and mounted them onto a kraft card base (new CS and envelopes.)  I found two different ribbons in my stash, layered them together, and wrapped them around the card front.

I added a satin bow and a gemstone butterfly for embellishment (also new stash.)  I have different colors of butterflies on the dozen invitations because I didn't have enough of one color to do them all.

Day 5 - Humor & Cupcakes (?)

Another day at Catch the Bug's 8th Birthday Celebration and they want to see humor and cupcakes.  Will you believe me when I say this was supposed to be a cupcake but there was a recipe error and it grew & grew & grew?  lol

I colored with ProMarkers and Copics, then cut the image with an Unbranded die.  The paper is from my newest DCWV stack, two sided and torn in two, with one piece reversed.  I love the distressed look that created!

The sentiment is printed, matted and hand cut.  What appears to be ribbon is actually glittered washi tape.  I made one of my little hand-sewn bows using sheer ribbon.

Invite the Cat

I know a good many of you have homes which are graced (?) by cats and at least some of you banish the cats to the outdoors when you have the house all dressed up for a party.  But I want to share with you what happens at my house when you don't invite the cat(s) to the birthday party!

The image is from Bugaboo Stamps in honor of Day 4 of their week-long, 8th Birthday Celebration.  The theme over there today is Bingo and I used Funny Sentiment/Bugaboo image/ Die or Punch.

I colored with ProMarkers and die cut the frame for the image with a Gina Marie die.  I used that same die to cut the green background paper, then inserted the image and frame into window cut.  I backed that with yellow dp and added the yellow baker's twine. That went onto the card front, leaving a white border all the way around.  I used a ProMarker to 'dye' the satin bow the exact color I wanted.

The "Party Time" is embossed with white EP and the sentiment below the image is printed and hand cut.  I added three, tiny, yellow, pearls below the upper sentiment.

Sketch for Catch the Bug's Birthday Bash

Day 2 of the week long Birthday celebration at Catch the Bug and here's my take on today's sketch.  I used a new -to-me image for a birthday card and we all know that birthdays mean new things just over the horizon (no matter how many of them we've celebrated!)

Here's the sketch.

I used ProMarkers to color the image, then cut it with a die from QuicKutz.  I brought out my stash of saved scraps and found the piece of plaid, glittered paper from the "Linen Closet" stack by DCWV.  It's hard to see the glittery sparkle but if you enlarge the photo, it'll show up.  With a bit of a trim on the end, that scrap worked perfectly.  I added the image piece and began searching the scraps again for a background.

There was a scrap of Winter Blue CS exactly the size of an A2 card so I used it and added the strip and the image to it.  That went on the card front.  I printed the sentiment, hand cut it and added it.  Finally, because this is a Western themed, masculine card, I added the twine and made a lariat instead of a bow.  One more CAS, masculine, birthday card for my stash!

Merry UnBirthday!

Many years ago, I had a dear friend who celebrated "Not My Birthday" exactly 6 months after her birthday.  That was my first introduction to what today is called an "UnBirthday."  But now I have a friend who says birthdays stopped being fun when she was too old for childhood birthday parties and she simply refuses to celebrate (or even tell anyone) when it's her birthday.

So, this card is for her and may she have many more "Not My Birthdays."

The image is by Rick St. Dennis and I colored it with ProMarkers.  The two side cuts were done with a border die from Spellbinders and I had to carefully line up the top corner where the cuts meet in order to get the scallop.  I did that by lining up the hole in the middle of the scallop.

I used shiny purple paper for the card front and then found charcoal CS to use as the background for the image piece.  I layered those together, wrapped with sparkly, silver ribbon and added the image on top.  The little silver bow was the only added embellishment.

Perspectives of a 6 Year Old !

My card this morning is a salute to a very astute, 6-year-old who has four older brothers (ages 13 through 21.)  She's the only girl and the baby of the family, a completely unplanned 'happy'-stance, and wonderfully unspoiled despite being everyone's darling.  :-D  The sentiment is an exact quote - directly from her.

I colored this adorable Bugaboo Stamps image with my ProMarkers and followed the recipe from Catch the Bug Challenges (3 layers, pink, and scallops.)  The striped dp and the distressed pink dp (cut with the same Memory Box stitched, scalloped circle die) are inlaid so that's really a single layer.  Then I cut another scalloped circle, smaller this time, and embossed it with my Swiss Dots folder.  Finally, I added the image which had been cut with a plain circle die (QuicKutz), making the other two layers for the recipe.

I used two different grosgrain ribbons to make the bow tie and sewed on a tiny button.  What you need to know is that Dollie, the 6-year-old, has a 5-month-old, Siamese kitten and he wears a red collar with a bow on it that looks like a bow tie.  I thought that made this card perfect for her and I'm sure she'll get a kick out of it when her own birthday rolls around in September.

Can't Be Late!

The latest Progressive Challenge has started over at The Outlawz and the freebie image this month is from Di's Digi Designs.  I loved it the minute I saw it and couldn't wait to use it so now I've added one more birthday card to my stash.

I based my card design on the sketch from Mojo Monday.
I had to modify it slightly so I could make a square card
and so I wouldn't cover up any of the image.

I used my ProMarkers to color it, then cut it with a double stitched die from Die-Versions.  I cut the two frames with larger dies from that same set and those are not layers but insets.  The orange papers are from Stampin' Up and the brown and beige are from my CS stash.

I tied the double bow with 1/8th inch ribbon.  The sentiment was printed, die cut, and matted.  Now it's ready for a special occasion birthday.

Birthdays and New Challenge Blog

I've gotten very little done in the way of new cards for the last few days so it's a good thing I had worked ahead on my DT commitments for the upcoming week.  :-D  Usually, I post something nearly every day but I missed yesterday and won't have anything else until Tuesday.  I am going to share a couple of quick birthday cards I did for my stash today but that's about all I have.

Well, I could share with you the reason I haven't gotten many cards done or posted.  I've been involved in starting up a new challenge blog!  It's called 2 Crafty Critter Crazies and our first challenge will be going live on April 1 (no, not an April Fool's joke!)   We're a true "Anything Goes" challenge in that it's not limited to cards or even just paper crafts.  You could enter mixed media, paintings, crochet, quilts or other fabric projects, whatever your heart desires!   The one requirement is that your project MUST have a "Critter" featured on it.  We define "Critters" as any animal with fur, feathers, fins, scales, even insects, as long as they are the featured item on your project.

The blog looks a bit bare right now but I'm still working on the overall design.  We have one post done, a couple of additional pages for "Winners" and "Rules," but most importantly, we have the "Follow" and "Follow by Email" tools added to the side bar!  If you'd like to visit and become a follower, we'd love to have you.  That way, you'll always know when a new challenge posts and who our fabulous sponsor will be for that challenge.  We'd love to see our Followers list grow rapidly.  :-D

OK, here are the two cards I managed to get done this morning.

For this one, I based it on the sketch at Sketch Saturday.

No images and no coloring today.  I was playing with my latest dies.  On the first card, the "Happy Birthday" is from a die by Lawn Fawn which actually says "happy birthday to you" but I cut it down.  The other die cut is from a die by Tutti Designs, my first die from that company.

On the second card, the "Birthday" is by CUTplorations (STAMPlorations) and the "Cheers" is by Cheery Lynn.  The background cut is from a die by Memory Box.

     Challenges:
Brown Sugar
Cut It Up
Jo's Scrap Shack
Outlawz PAM
Outlawz Twisted Thursday

I hope you'll come visit us at 2 Crafty Critter Crazies and play along in our monthly challenges over there.  Not long to wait now.  Happy Stamping.  NanaConnie

Point of View on Birthday Presents

OK, it's the middle of the week and the first day of a new month and I couldn't think of any better reason to celebrate a bit of silliness.   At Crafts Galore Encore, we start another monthly challenge today and, as usual, our theme is "Anything Goes."  We're sponsored by Kenny K this month and I'd love to see you playing along.  Here's what I did with two of Kenny K's delightful creatures, playing with the idea of birthday presents and what each one might see as suitable or desirable.  :-D

I colored each of them with my ProMarkers, fussy cut the little mouse, and layered them all together onto a blue CS mat, adding the mouse and sentiment last.  The bit of cheese I drew, colored, fussy cut, and put in front of the mouse.

I chose papers from Graphic 45 and added one of my hand sewn bows as the only embellishment, keeping it CAS.  Now I have another masculine birthday card in my stash.  :-D

Groundhog Day is tomorrow and then we'll know if we're going to have an early spring or another six weeks of winter.  Which one do you hope to have?   Whichever one, come play with us in our Anything Goes challenge at Crafts Galore Encore.  Happy Stamping.  NanaConnie

A Birthday Goddess at ArtbyMiRan

I finally got my card done for the September Progressive Challenge at ArtbyMiRan.  I had lots of fun coloring this one and it didn't take me long to settle on my favorite color combo, lavender and aqua.

I colored with my ProMarkers, die cut with a set from QuicKutz, and began thinking of design ideas for the card.  I was digging through the boxes of ribbon and lace when I discovered that I still have about 18 inches of that particular lace.  I thought I had used it all but there it was, a perfect complement for that image!

I knew the lace wasn't going to look as dramatic if I laid it across a white card front, so then I went digging for exactly the right shade of lavender CS.  Once that was found and adhered, the lace went on, then the sentiment and image.  I debated between flowers or bows but decided the bows worked best, one in pale lavender, the other in rich purple.

I hope your weekend is going well and that you're rested enough to face Monday which is clearly on it's way, right around the corner.  Happy Stamping.  NanaConnie

Please continue to leave comments.  The "Word Verification" really isn't on.  BLOGGER INSISTS ON SHOWING THE "CAPTCHA" BOX BUT IF YOU IGNORE IT AND JUST PUBLISH YOUR COMMENT, IT WILL POST JUST FINE.  I WISH I COULD GET RID OF IT BUT THERE'S NO OPTION FOR THAT WHEN THE COMMENTS ARE WRITTEN IN A SEPARATE BOX. SORRY.

Summer Birthdays for Kids

In my family, we have a lot of spring and summer birthdays to celebrate so any time I can make another birthday card for the stash, that's wonderful.   Our new challenge this week at QKR Stampede has a theme of "Birthday Cards for Kids."   Perfect!  I chose to use Digi 24134 "Birthday Turtle" and the sentiment Digi 17206 "Birthday Again", both from QKR.

I used the sketch I found at Sketch Saturday,
and I pulled my colors from The Male Room.

The image is colored with ProMarkers (my absolute favorites!), then die cut and matted.  I dug around in the scrap basket and found those wonderful bits of green CS.  The 'blingy' ribbon was in my box of miscellaneous ribbons (meaning I don't remember where I got it) and the bow is one of those I make by the dozen and toss in my stash for future use.  The metal charm has been hiding in my things and I decided it was time to use it.

     Challenges:

I hope your week has gone well.  For those of you in the USA, when you're celebrating the long weekend this Memorial Day, try to remember the meaning of the holiday; salute a Veteran and say a prayer for our currently serving military guys and gals, won't you?  Happy Stamping.  NanaConnie

Birthday Roses

Well, two posts yesterday and one this morning.  You know I've been making good use of my play time this weekend.  :-D  This next card I did using an image from Beccy's Place (theme: Anything Goes with Beccy's image.)  I discovered Beccy's Place images a couple of years ago and I just love them.  These roses seemed perfect for a birthday, and a friend of mine has her birthday on Mother's Day this year so this will probably end up in her mailbox.  :-D

I started with the sketch at Speedy TV (twist: add bling), turned sideways.

The roses are colored with ProMarkers and die cut with another of my frame dies from Spellbinders.  The polka dot dp is from SU and the background has been lightly embossed with my "Linen" folder.  Can you believe there are no fewer than 6 shades of green on this card between the papers, the CS, and the coloring?  There are just so many challenges this week wanting us to do something with green.  I tried to satisfy them all.  :-D

I added the pearl swirls and the metal brads for a bit of bling but the card is still flat enough to fit into a regular envelope for mailing.

The following challenges all have themes related to "green":

     Challenges with other themes:
Crafty Creations -- Birthday
Creative Moments -- Swirls/Pearls
Cuttlebug Mania -- For Mum
Digistamps 4 Joy -- Birthday sentiment
Fussy and Fancy -- Birthdays
Just Inspirational -- Photo of flowers
Loves Rubber Stamps -- A/G
Scrap It Girl -- Birthdays
Seize the Birthday -- A/G
Totally Papercrafts -- female birthday

Back to my craft room now.  If you're in the USA, but not in Arizona, did you remember to move your clocks forward into Daylight Savings Time?  If not, better do it before you have to go to work or be at an appointment.  You'll be late if you don't.  BTW, can anyone tell me why we "save daylight" in the spring and summer when days are longer and we have more daylight anyway?  The farmer's cows still wake up with the sun, not the clock.  :-D  Happy Stamping.  NanaConnie
