Penny for Your Thoughts

Out where I live in California, on the West Coast of the USA, we're suffering through our third heat wave of the summer and we're barely finished with June!  We get heat waves (any stretch of 3 or more days of temps 100F and over) every summer but the temperatures we've had in these three are higher than what we usually get in August, much less June!

In any case, July 1 starts a new fortnightly challenge at QKR Stampede where the theme is always "Anything Goes."  This adorable little mouse, called "For Your Thoughts," is hoping someone has thoughts about anything other than the heat!  :-D  Or maybe thoughts about how to stay cool despite being 107F outside.

I used ProMarkers to color him and used a Sizzix die to cut the image.   I managed to find copper paper the same color as the penny and added 4 squares (scraps) of it to the background.  The little metal coins were things I've had in my stash for years and I ran across them when I was cleaning out little drawers in one of the craft cabinets.  I'll bet I hadn't opened any of those four little drawers in 2 years!  There were the tiny coins, just waiting for this perfect card.

The black bow is hand-tied  and trimmed into dove tails.

10th Birthday Week at Catch the Bug

It's time for Bugaboo Stamps to celebrate their 10th year and there are daily challenges at Catch the Bug all week long.  Projects must be Birthday themed and follow the specific daily theme.  Today it's a Down on the Farm Birthday.  The image is from their new Down on the Farm set. which includes all kinds of farm animals and a farmer.  :-D

I started blogging 9 years ago, right after Bugaboo celebrated their 1st birthday. They were the first digis I ever saw (or bought) and they quickly became favorites of mine.  Don't ask me to pick just one favorite - in this case, I have to claim every Bugaboo image I ever got (and that's close to 1,000 by now!) is now a favorite.

I guess you could say this card is for someone who's "As Happy as a Pig in Mud" to be celebrating another birthday.  :-D

Snuggle Snowman

Two posts today but none tomorrow because of Thanksgiving when I'll be visiting with family for the holiday.  This post is for the "S" prompt at Beccy's Place 30 Days of Holiday cards.  I am just crazy about Snowmen, especially those I find at Beccy's, and this is one of my favorites.

I colored with ProMarkers, using Scarlett and Deep Sea Blue as my primary colors, then cut the Snuggly Snowman with a Scalloped border die from Spellbinders.  I decided on a very Simple design so I adhered the image to a card base, then cut 3 Snowflakes with a die from AI.  Two of those are not obvious since they are in the Sky next to the Snowman.  I added Sparkle to the snowflakes and called it finished!

     Challenges:
Crafty Addicts
Crafty Sentiments
Creative Inspirations
Double D
Lemon Shortbread
Passion for ProMarkers
Scrappy Land
Simon Says Stamp
Try Stampin' On Tues

Be sure to stop back this afternoon for my second post and to those of you in the USA, may Thanksgiving Blessings be yours.  Happy Crafting.  NanaConnie

Christmas Gremlins

I know, I know, gremlins aren't really well known as Christmas critters.  Grinches, yes, and certainly elves but I happen to have personal experience with Christmas gremlins!  Ever have a package disappear after you wrapped it?  Or have favorite ornaments fall off the tree when the cat is locked outside?  Yep, it's the Christmas gremlins!

Fortunately for you, someone managed to get a photo of a Christmas gremlin celebrating his latest raid on the Christmas tree.  Look at that evidence!  Wrapped presents and stolen candy canes.

This image is from the Progressive Challenge at Sasayaki Glitter, and I colored it with my ProMarkers.  I used a die from Little B to cut it.  The deep burgundy CS in the background was embossed with my Linen folder.

The three candy cane embellishments and the sentiment are from Recollections and I like the CAS design which focuses the attention on the image.  I debated for a while about which color candy canes to use, decided on both of the traditional Christmas colors although I admit to a preference for green most of the time.  It makes me think of the scents of Christmas - pine, bayberry, and balsam.  Mmmmm, good holiday smells.

     Challenges:
As You Like It
Aud Sentiments
C.R.A.F.T.
Creative Moments
Dream Valley
I {heart} ProMarkers
Outlawz Twisted Thurs.
Star Stampz
Word Art Weds.

Stop by again later to see the next card I've done for the 30 Days of Holiday Cards at Beccy's Place.  Happy Crafting.  NanaConnie

New Challenge at MHK Designs

The April/May challenge starts today at MHK Designs and we have this lovely inspiration photo.  Feel free to use the colors, the photo, or whatever inspires you.  Remember, you are not required to use an MHK Designs image on your card but if you do, then it's an "Anything Goes" challenge instead of an inspiration photo challenge.  :-D

As you can see, I chose to go with the Anything Goes since I'm using both an image and a sentiment from the MHK Designs Fruit Borders set.  Still, I did manage to use a botanical image and a couple of the colors in the inspiration photo.

The image is colored with Copics this time, then die cut along one side with a Spellbinders Scalloped Borders Petite die.  I cut two more border pieces from yellow and green CS and layered all the borders together for a 3-in-a-row look.

I also border cut the sentiment and layered it on top.  I gathered up a few of the 'dots' which fell out of the holes along the borders and glued them to the sentiment piece, then added the strings of pearls for embellishment.  At that point, it seemed finished so I resisted the urge to smother it with flowers or bows or glittery additions.

     Challenges:
Classic DT Open
Colouring in Scrapland (flower/pearls/die)
Crafting from the Heart
Craft Your Passion
Deep Ocean
Pearly Sparkles
Petal Lu
Sisters of Craft
Sparkles Forum
Through the Craft Room Door

I hope you are going to come and play in the challenge this month.  We really do get a lot of inspiration from the wonderful creations we see entered there.  Happy Stamping.  NanaConnie
