Red Panda

Today's card is for the Progressive Challenge over at The Outlawz.  The image provided for the challenge is from Fabrika Fantasy and it's called Red Panda.  I thought it was lovely and intriguing and decided to do only partial coloring on it.

I colored with my ProMarkers and cut it with my paper cutter.  The frame behind it was a leftover from a Sue Wilson die cut for another project and I cut the scrap with a QuicKutz die, making it a rectangle with the cut out shape on the inside.  The background paper was a scrap from SU.  I made a mulberry paper flower and added a sparkly, red, Dew Drop to the center.  The sentiment was printed and cut with a QuicKutz die.

I based this on the left-hand sketch at Three Room Studio.

Hanging the Christmas Bunting

Another new weekly challenge is starting now at Pammie's Inky Pinkies and our theme is "Anything Goes."  We're being sponsored by Polkadoodles and they were generous enough to supply images for the team to use on their sample projects.  I used "Wanda Penguin Hanging Bunting," a sweet little penguin.

I colored the image with my ProMarkers and added highlights with gel pen.  The image was cut with a die from Dare 2B Artzy and framed with a scalloped die cut (Sizzix.)  The tiny snowmen and trees on the banner were done with mini punches and I added 3 tiny, sparkly red, Dew Drops.  The dp is from Recollections, and the green polka dot ribbon is from Really Reasonable Ribbon.  The black bow is one of my hand-sewn, signature bows with a pearl.  The sentiment was printed and cut with an Avery Elle die.

     Challenges:

Don't forget that the challenges at PIP are always Anything Goes except on a 5th Monday when we have a specific theme.   I really want to see you playing along with us this week and every week.  :-D  Happy Crafting.  NanaConnie

When I am Old...

More than 25 years ago, a friend introduced me to a poem called "Warning" by Jenny Jones.  She knew that purple was my favorite color but also noticed that I never wore it, settling mostly for navy blues, charcoal grays, and black.  Nothing too daring or outrageous.  lol

The message of the poem changed my entire life!

Warning

When I am an old woman, I shall wear purple,
With a red hat which doesn’t suit.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves,
And satin sandals, and say we’ve no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I’m tired,
And gobble up samples in shops, and press alarm bells,
And run my stick along the public railings,
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain,
And pick flowers in other people’s gardens,
And learn to spit.

(When you're old) you can wear terrible shirts, and grow more fat,
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go,
Or only bread and pickles for a week,
And hoard pens and pencils, and beermats, and things in boxes.

But now we must have clothes that keep us dry,
And pay our rent, and not swear in the street,
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.

But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.
                                                                         -- Jenny Joseph

I immediately started wearing purple and it's the predominant color in my wardrobe to this day!
:-D

A few weeks back, I was asked if I'd be a Guest Designer at The Outlawz Sunday "Songs and Rhymes" challenge and I was given two or three dates from which I chose today.  By happy coincidence, "Warning" was the poem scheduled for that date and I had no idea at the time I picked that date!  It was just meant to be.  :-D

So, I chose this image, called "Emmy's Hat," from SheepSki Designs.

I colored the image with ProMarkers and gel pens, then cut it with a Spellbinders die.  The background dp is one of the chenille papers from Doodlebug, a leftover scrap from some other project.  What you can't see is that the chenille dp has a die cut hole in it.  By covering the hole with the image piece, I saved that (rather large) scrap from the trash can.   Always think twice before throwing anything away.   :-D

The sentiment was printed onto a scrap bit of CS & cut with an Avery Elle die.  I found a few scraps of mulberry paper and tucked one behind the image and another couple bits on the sentiment.  Two sparkly red Dew Drops and a white, mulberry paper, rose from Recollections for embellishment and the card was finished.

     Challenges:

If you're not a member of The Outlawz, you really should visit and join.  It's completely free and they have fortnightly challenges for each day of the week, plus two month long challenges each month, one of which is a progressive challenge so you can get free images from different companies each month.  Go check it out!

April Showers

Where I live we had nearly twice as much rain in March as is normal but now into April, we've had no rain at all.  Having had severe drought over the last 5 or 6 years, we really need more rain so I'm hoping for a few more April Showers.  Maybe this card, featuring a darling image from Bugaboo Stamps, will help.

Of course, I used ProMarkers to color the image (my go-to favorites!) and then I cut it with a Tonic Studios scalloped die.  I added some Dew Drops to a few of the raindrops in the image, enhancing the water aspect.

I found a denim blue card base and wrapped it with some gingham ribbon from Crafty Ribbons, adding the image piece on top of that.  I did one of my signature, hand-sewn bows, shaping it to look like a butterfly to complement those in the image.  I added a tiny pompom as the butterfly's head.

Finally, I printed the sentiment and added it to the lower corner.
