Seahorse

Today's card is in celebration of yet another Progressive Challenge, this one at Kinda Cute.  It just seemed perfect for a birthday card.  I reversed the image, then colored it with ProMarkers.  I cut the image with a QuicKutz, rectangle die and rounded two of the corners with a Fiskars punch.

The dp and CS pieces were all scraps from the basket and I rounded those corners with scissors.  I hand tied a bow using two strands of  jute cord.

Shipwrecked

Our latest challenge is starting at Creative Knockouts, where our theme for this challenge is "Anything Goes" and we're sponsored by Star Stampz.  They were generous and supplied the images used by the DT for our inspiration projects.  I used a sweet stamp called "Shipwrecked" and I'm going to use the card as a subtle message to my son who lives out of state and who hasn't called his momma in a month!  There's a "Get Well" sentiment inside because he must be sick. lol

I used ProMarkers and pencils to color the image, then cut it with a Sizzix scalloped circle die.  I cut another scalloped circle with a smaller die from that same set for the sentiment.  The card base is made with kraft CS, and I tied a double bow using baker's twine.

World Wide ...

That's all for today.  I've injured my wrist and it's in a brace which makes typing very difficult (one handed and for a 'touch typist' that's painful!)  Hope to see you playing along with us.  Happy Crafting.  NanaConnie

Water Spirit

Most of us are drawn to cool waters during summer's hot days and the coast, with it's crashing waves, is often the first option for a getaway.  Last summer was extraordinarily hot in my area and I headed for ocean breezes as soon as I could.   This spectacular silhouette from Crackerbox Palace says it all.

I used ProMarkers to color the sky and the ocean, then cut the image with a rectangle die from Spellbinders.  The scalloped frame is also a die cut (Spellbinders.)  I added two more layers of framing, one a simple rectangle and the bottom one punched with two different Fiskars corner punches.

All of that went onto an eggshell white card base.  I printed and hand-cut the sentiment, matted it, and added it to the top of the card.  The only embellishment was the one, hand-sewn bow.

Sea Dragon

I love sea dragons - I think they are the most elegant and dramatic of  all the seahorses.  When I spotted this one from AuroraWings, I grabbed it and have used it several times as an iconic image for summer cards.  Nothing could be more indicative of a relaxing summer day than a sea dragon drifting with the waves.

I'm practicing again with my polychromos pencils, trying for deeper, richer colors.  Once colored, I cut the image (and the green frame) with inside/outside stitched rectangle dies from Die-namics.  The image is inlaid into the frame.

The dp is from one of my old (very old!) DCWV stacks, so old I can't even tell you the name of it because the cover is missing.  But I love the seaside colors in it - including the sky blues, warm sunshine yellows, and coral pinks.  I layered everything onto a pale green card front and then added the few sequins.  I left it very simple beyond that bit of sequin sparkle because I really wanted to showcase the sea dragon and not the embellishments.  :-D

I think I'll have two posts again tomorrow; one for sure and maybe two if I get the second card done on time.  I'm not that far away from being gone to the California beaches for a few days and am trying to get everything prepared for my absence, including a few card which need to be posted before the month runs out, hence the double posts on a few days this week.

Under the Sea

I certainly have been on a sea foam green kick this week but it just works so well for this image from the Sasayaki Glitter FB progressive challenge.  Need I say that I've been humming "Under the Sea" from Disney's 'Little Mermaid' every since I first saw it?

This time I colored the image with chalk markers and I used regular chalk to color the water.  I also added glitter ink to the bubbles for a touch of sparkle.

I used a Memory Box stitched, scalloped die to cut the image and each of the three background pieces.  The sentiment is printed, hand cut and matted, then hand cut again.  The starfish and the octopus (don't you just adore her little bow?) have been in my collection of embellishments for a couple of years and this just seemed to be the perfect place to use them.  They are actually buttons with the shanks cut off the back.  The fact that they're 3D adds some wonderful texture, too.

Gator in the Ocean

Another Friday so another challenge is starting at QKR Stampede.  Our theme this week is "By the Seaside"  and we want to see projects with images of oceans, beaches, sand, sandcastles, seashells -- you decide what to use that meets the theme and then come show us your creations.

I got a bit silly and used two cute QKR images:  Digi 5602 "Floating Gator" and Digi 6702 "Wondering" and then added my own sentiment.

I did a really simple design, coloring the images with my ProMarkers, then cutting them and placing them in appropriate positions on scrap strips of blue dp which I had added to the card front as background.  I used the strip with the sentiment as a divider to differentiate the above and below parts of the ocean.

I had already wrapped the ribbon around the card front and I tied the bow separately, adding the anchor charm before attaching the bow.

I love the expression on the face of the octopus!  He really does seem to be wondering about the gator, doesn't he?
