Seaside Fishing

I'm lazing at the beach this week, avoiding the continuing heat at home, and probably watching pelicans just like this one!  It's our new challenge today at QKR Stampede and we have our usual "Anything Goes" theme with the optional twist of "By the Seaside."  How appropriate considering where I am.  :-D

My card this week uses the QKR image called "Happy Pelican" and this isn't the first time I've used it.  It's just so fun and funny and perfect for any summertime card.

I colored with ProMarkers and gel pens, then die cut the image and the frame with pinpoint rectangle dies from Memory Box.  The dp is a scrap and I distressed the edges of it with scissors before adding it to the light-blue background.  I also distressed all the edges of the background cardstock.  I wrapped it with sheer, turquoise ribbon before layering it onto the card front, then applied the hand cut sentiment.  Simple, masculine, and fun.

I hope you're enjoying yourself as much as I am and, for those friends of mine wasting away in the glare of that southwest sun, get inside and craft, you idiots!  What are you doing venturing out in that heat?  What do you think you are, a mad dog or perhaps an Englishman?  lol  Happy Stamping.  NanaConnie

Sea Dragon

I love sea dragons - I think they are the most elegant and dramatic of  all the seahorses.  When I spotted this one from AuroraWings, I grabbed it and have used it several times as an iconic image for summer cards.  Nothing could be more indicative of a relaxing summer day than a sea dragon drifting with the waves.

I'm practicing again with my polychromos pencils, trying for deeper, richer colors.  Once colored, I cut the image (and the green frame) with inside/outside stitched rectangle dies from Die-namics.  The image is inlaid into the frame.

The dp is from one of my old (very old!) DCWV stacks, so old I can't even tell you the name of it because the cover is missing.  But I love the seaside colors in it - including the sky blues, warm sunshine yellows, and coral pinks.  I layered everything onto a pale green card front and then added the few sequins.  I left it very simple beyond that bit of sequin sparkle because I really wanted to showcase the sea dragon and not the embellishments.  :-D

I think I'll have two posts again tomorrow; one for sure and maybe two if I get the second card done on time.  I'm not that far away from being gone to the California beaches for a few days and am trying to get everything prepared for my absence, including a few card which need to be posted before the month runs out, hence the double posts on a few days this week.

Gator in the Ocean

Another Friday so another challenge is starting at QKR Stampede.  Our theme this week is "By the Seaside"  and we want to see projects with images of oceans, beaches, sand, sandcastles, seashells -- you decide what to use that meets the theme and then come show us your creations.

I got a bit silly and used two cute QKR images:  Digi 5602 "Floating Gator" and Digi 6702 "Wondering" and then added my own sentiment.

I did a really simple design, coloring the images with my ProMarkers, then cutting them and placing them in appropriate positions on scrap strips of blue dp which I had added to the card front as background.  I used the strip with the sentiment as a divider to differentiate the above and below parts of the ocean.

I had already wrapped the ribbon around the card front and I tied the bow separately, adding the anchor charm before attaching the bow.

I love the expression on the face of the octopus!  He really does seem to be wondering about the gator, doesn't he?
