New Car for Christmas

This cute image is from the progressive challenge at Cute as a Button and it reminds me of what became a long running, family joke at the holidays.  One Christmas, when we asked my dad what he wanted for Christmas, he replied, "Well, maybe Santa will bring me a new car."  Now, even as kids we knew that Santa didn't bring presents to adults but on Christmas morning, when we all opened our packages, there under the tree was a small box for my dad and in it was a toy car!   Since nobody claimed to be the giver, we could only assume that Santa had indeed brought my dad a car.

Over the next 7 or 8 years, each year there was a package for my dad and each contained some kind of car - a toy, a kit to put together, a framed photo of that year's new car(s), etc.   One year there was even a Chevy dealer's calendar with a different car on each month.  lol  Everyone in the family loved the joke and nobody ever admitted they were the one to keep the joke going.

So, here's a salute to you, Dad, and here's your Christmas car for this year.  If he was still with us, I know he'd love it!

I colored with ProMarkers, added Glossy Accents to the car and sparkle gel ink to the part that would screw into the light socket, and then cut the image with a stitched die from Lawn Fawn.  All the smaller squares are also cut with Lawn Fawn dies and they were all cut from scraps.  The red circle was cut with a QuicKutz die.

The snowflake paper is from Doodlebug.  What doesn't show at all in the photo is that each snowflake is sparkly so there's lots of blingy, shimmer and shine.  I used burlap ribbon to tie the bow and I 'dyed' it green with a ProMarker.

Thanksgiving Maiden

If you visit my blog regularly or are a follower, you undoubtedly know that I love progressive challenges.  I found one that's new to me although it's not a new challenge.  I popped over to the online store at Cute as a Button, bought the image for this challenge (at half off), and sat down to make this card.  I could have gotten the image free simply by sending an email and requesting it but since it was on sale at half off, I did what I could to support the artist by buying it.  After all, I'll get the next one free.  :-D

I colored the image with ProMarkers and cut it with a die from Bo Bunny.  The delicate frame is also cut with another die from that same set and that brown CS was simply a scrap from the basket on my craft table.  I layered the image and frame pieces onto marbled-beige CS and trimmed that to fit the card base.

I took a scrap of that trimmed off CS and printed the sentiment onto it, then die cut it (again, Bo Bunny die) but I had to cut more than once, moving the die each time to get the size I wanted since the die was much larger than the sentiment.  The brown CS behind the sentiment was the inside leftover from cutting the frame for the image but I cut that piece with the same die I used on the sentiment.  The cut piece shows you the actual size of the die, no adjustment made to the cut that time.

As a final touch on this otherwise CAS card, I tied a simple bow using brown jute cord and added it above the sentiment piece.

Last week's somewhat lower temperatures are already a thing of the past so we're still waiting on autumn here in my neck of the woods.  Weather predictors are saying we will be back to 100F either today or tomorrow and at 99F for the rest of the week, through and including the weekend.  Maybe this is just what we use to call "Indian Summer" back when I was a child.  I can hope, right?

Happy Day Under the Sea

This is my first image from Cute as a Button but probably not my last.  :-D  I've just discovered them and I can feel a shopping spree coming on.  Oh, well, feeling a shopping spree is more fun than feeling a summer cold coming on!

Speaking of summer, what could be better than celebrating a cool day under the sea?  I think I'll use this for a birthday card.

I colored the image with ProMarkers and chalks, then added a bit of glitter to her hips and upper tail.  I used a die from Sue Wilson to cut the piece that frames her.  On this card, I cut the blue CS and laid it over the image.  On top of that I layered the undersea die cut from Memory Box.  I used the little negative circles that dropped out to make the bubbles on the image.  The little fish is also a negative piece.  I thought that would be a great way to use those tiny scraps instead of just tossing them away.
