Crafty Chefs for February

Last week I shared with you my card for the January Recipe at Crafty Chefs and now it's my turn to create the recipe for February.  I know it's not February yet but consider this a gift in case you want to join us at Crafty Chefs.  It's open to any who care to join (free) and there's never a deadline for completing any project.  You're free to use and share any of the monthly recipes whenever you like.  We are just a group of crafters who are trying to get out of our own personal comfort zones now and again and try some things we may not have done before by following someone else's recipe.  Also fun is finding a recipe which exactly fits your own style or the things in your craft stash and whipping up something to share with the rest of us for inspiration.

Since I just did a recipe in December, some of the other gals who play over there gave me some help on the recipe for February.  Appreciation to Margaret for suggesting "Stamp - rubber or digi," "Pink & Purple," plus "pattern dp."  Karen, our Master Chef from January, gave me "Fun Fold" (the previous chef always gives the next chef one MUST DO item.)  So, here's the February recipe:

MUST DO: Image + Purple/Pink combo + Pattern paper + Fun Fold

CAN DO: Embossing Folder OR Doily OR Flowers

Offset Gate Fold card
Image from A Day from Daisies
Colored w ProMarkers & gel pens
Cut w Quickutz die
Doily sprayed w inks
Pink dp from scrap basket
Sentiment unknown rubber stamp
    (cut w Avery Elle die)

     Challenges:

I'm still following the "challenge-yourself" idea being promoted by my blogging buddy, V.  It's called "Just Stash January" and it involves using nothing but things already in your stash throughout the entire month of January!  There are a few reasonable exceptions (all of which mean that no money has come out of your pocket) and you can read about those on her post.  Just click on the link above to find out all about it, then start counting those coins and bills you'll be 'stashing' in your pocket this month instead of crying about even more charges on the credit cards after the holiday season.

Come visit us at Crafty Chefs.  Join us if you'd like.  You can even sign up be a Master Chef and pick a month this year to create the recipe for all of us to follow.  Check out all the recipes in the respective monthly albums and try a few. It's fun!  Happy Crafting.  NanaConnie

The Quiet Snowman

This snowman is enjoying the hushed, white, silence that comes to the meadow when gentle snow falls and covers the ground around him.  But he will wish you a Merry Christmas if you speak to him.  :-D

The image is from A Day for Daisies and is one of my favorite snowmen although I've not used him for a couple of years.  I found him waiting in a folder of "to be colored" images and decided it was time for another Christmas card to add to the stash.  Every bit of paper on this card is a left over scrap including the CS on which I printed the snowman.

Colored with ProMarkers & glitter pen

The Bunny's Bonnet

I found this darling image in my collection of A Day for Daisies digis and thought it needed to be on a spring card.  What a fun idea - a bunny wearing her new spring bonnet!

I colored with ProMarkers, adding glitter to the bonnet, then cut the image with an Unbranded oval die.  The bonnet in the image isn't actually that shape but I cut a tiny scrap with a very small scalloped die (Spellbinders), covered it with glitter, and adhered it onto the bonnet, giving the piece some great texture and sparkle.

I found two scraps, one of pale lavender and the other of purple CS, on my desk.  One I trimmed into a simple rectangle and the other I cut into the sentiment with a die from CUTplorations.  I added all the elements to a light blue card front and chose one of my signature bows as embellishment.

With Sympathy

Today I have a sympathy card to share.  I rarely make these ahead of time because I prefer that they have a personal touch, something which I think fits the person or situation.  This one I did for a friend who loves CAS and whose favorite color is blue.

The image is from A Day for Daisies and I colored it with ProMarkers.  I cut it with my largest QuicKutz rectangle die, inked the edges, and added it to the front of the card blank.  No embellishments, just a very CAS design which I know she'll appreciate.  A favorite of mine, too, because they are designed to be mailed and this one is in the mailbox already.

Cherry Harvest

It's August 1st (how did it get to be August???) and that means another new challenge at 2 Crafty Critter Crazies where we always have an Anything Goes theme as long as you feature some sort of creature.  We're being sponsored by A Day for Daisies this month and they generously gave us images to use.  I chose "A Bite of Cherry" for my image and it makes me think of harvest time.  :-D

I started with the sketch from Sketch Saturday
and the colors from The Outlawz.

I colored with a combination of ProMarkers and water color paints.  I cut the image with a Gina Marie die.  I found a scrap of marbled, rusty, CS and trimmed it to the exact size of the die cut, framing out the image in rusty reds for a feeling of fall harvest.

I added a simple strip of sheer ribbon and red bow to which I added a tiny gem.  I printed and hand cut the sentiment, inked the edges, and added it to the bottom of the image.

     Challenges:

I hope we'll see you playing along with us this month.  You can submit any kind of project as long as it features some kind of creature - 2 legged, 4 legged, feather, fur, wings or no wings, insects, even complete fantasy creatures.  Come play!  NanaConnie

Outlawz 'Songs and Rhymes' Challenge

I have the honor of being the first GDT on the brand new Sunday "Songs and Rhymes" challenge over at the Outlawz and I'm delighted to participate.  :-D  Each week, they will have a song or a rhyme as the theme and you can create something which was inspired by it.  This week, I was inspired by the whole "English Garden" idea and I am convinced that English Gardens are filled with fairy circles and all that comes along with those, including fairies and dragons and tiny-but-meaningful gifts.

My card uses a delightful image from A Day for Daisies.

I started with colors from Color Sisters
and loved the inspiration photo of this lovely garden at
ARTastic.  Don't you just know there's a fairy in there somewhere?

The image, which is printed directly onto the card front for a single-layer card, is colored with a combination of ProMarkers and polychromos pencils.  My version of the color combo is soft, springtime pastels to enhance the feeling of a garden.  I added some Wink of Stella shimmer to the fairy's wings and sparkly glitter to the dragon's wings.  As a salute to the previous requirement of CAS designs for the Sunday challenge, I kept this card very CAS, adding no embellishments other than the sparkle.

     Challenges:
Catch the Bug

Crafty Friends
Jo's Scrap Shack

Send a Smile 4 Kids

Come join us at The Outlawz.  There are new challenges each day, a monthly progressive challenge, and membership at the Outlawz is free.  You'll find lots of new (and old) friends, crafters just like you who are warm, friendly, and wonderfully helpful when needed.  Happy Crafting.  NanaConnie

Flower Fairy

Some of you know that I've been down with the flu for several days but, for the rest of you, let me start by sending apologies to all the favorite blogs which I follow because I haven't been around to visit or comment and, truthfully, there are so many posts, I'll never catch up on the commenting.  My plan is to visit and absorb but I may not be able to leave individual comments.

I managed to get this card done for posting and today is the first day I've felt up to spending any amount of time at the computer, at least enough to check email and write up a post.  I did this card for a birthday.

I colored that darling fairy image (A Day for Daisies) with ProMarkers and cut it and the other two mats with dies from QuicKutz.  I used scraps of dp for the pink and blue mats.  The purple striped dp was also a scrap but it was just the perfect size for an A2 card.

I wrapped the card front with sheer ribbon from Really Reasonable Ribbon and added a rose and rose bud.  The purple leaves were cut with my favorite Cheery Lynn die.   Finally, I printed the sentiment and cut it with a QuicKutz die, then added it to the card front.

Holly Jolly Christmas Fairy

I love stamps from A Day for Daisies and was so sad when they closed their challenges.  Fortunately, their store is still open and active so I can find fun images like this darling Christmas Fairy.

I printed the image onto a scrap of white CS, then colored with ProMarkers, and added loose glitter to her wings.  After it dried, I cut it with a die from Spellbinders.  I used a square die from QuicKutz to cut another scrap of green polka dot dp.  I layered those together and put them onto the card front on an angle.

I added three snowflakes, all glittered, and a few gems and left all the rest of the space white for a CAS card, easily mailed.

Kissing Toads

IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR THE 2 CRAFTY CRITTER CRAZIES POST,
SCROLL DOWN ONE OR CLICK HERE.

We all remember the story of the Little Princess who had to kiss a toad (or maybe it was a frog) to find her Prince Charming, right?  How many of you believed that story enough to kiss your share of toads, frogs, or other like creatures?  Yeah, me, too.  :-D

My card today not only celebrates the newest "Anything Goes" challenge at Crafts Galore Encore, it also features a fabulous image (The Little Frog Princess) from our wonderful sponsor, A Day for Daisies!

I knew before I even started coloring that I wanted to do a really CAS card.  I colored with watercolors, using clear water to lift some of the color along one side of the princess to create the angle of light and some shadows.  I cut the image into a rectangle, inked the edges, adhered it to the textured card base on an angle, and then trimmed the overhanging corners.

I printed the sentiment, cut it into a rectangle, inked the edges, and added it.  That was it - no flowers, no ribbons, no bows, no embellishments.  Just completely clean and simple.

Gathering Hearts

Last year I bought these two images from A Day for Daisies and just never had a chance to use them.  Since I made so many more Valentine cards this year, I decided to combine the two of them onto one card and I love how it looks like that darling little heart fairy is gathering up hearts from a bush growing them.

I first printed the 'bush' onto dp, then colored the hearts with my ProMarkers.  I added tiny dots of glitter to the sparkle points in the image.  I also colored the fairy with ProMarkers, and fussy cut it.  I mounted the fairy on Pop Dots and adhered it to the other image.  All of that went onto a card front.

I used sparkly twine and a red bow with a pearl to embellish the card.

A Fairy's Hello

One more image from A Day for Daisies which has been hiding in my stash, unused until today.  I've done a set of 8 of these for quick note cards and they are a gift for a friend.

Isn't this the most adorable fairy?  I used ProMarkers to color the image and a Cheery Lynn die to cut it.  The large leaf was cut with a die from Spellbinders.  Both the gingham ribbon and the ribbon leaves were in my stash.  The butterfly was cut from felt and I added a gem to it.

Life as a Grown Up

My eldest granddaughter (the one I hoped and prayed would be a girl after having only grandsons prior to her birth) turns 18 next month!  How is that even possible?  I'm not that far from 18 myself, am I?  :-D  Well, whatever, she's also the one who adores dragons and even though 18 means being an adult, it doesn't mean we have to leave childhood entirely behind so this dragon (from A Day for Daisies) seemed perfect for a birthday card.

I colored the dragon with my ProMarkers, die cut him with a die from Spellbinders, and matted it with dark blue CS, trimmed to fit.  The diagonal orange strip is actually patterned paper and both it and the argyle diamond paper came from a pad by Paper Studio.  The roses were in my stash and I simply twisted them together and curled their stems.  The bow is one I made weeks ago and tossed in my stash for future use.  This time, I left it white.

Song in Your Heart

The image on this card is from A Day for Daisies and I found it in my folder of images I had colored up but never actually made into a card or other project.  It just touched me and I decided that a nice monochromatic blue card would be perfect on this cold and rainy day.  It's obviously winter in the image because there are no leaves on the tree.  :-D

I had already colored the image with my ProMarkers so I used a Bo Bunny die to cut it and the frame, then I mounted both of those on a lighter blue rectangle.  The background is cut from paper by DCWV using a Memory Box die.  I layered that onto a piece of navy blue CS and put that onto a card base.

I decided that there was enough texture and visual detail with the die cuts, so all I added for embellishment were the feather and the flower.  The sentiment is my statement about being positive in all circumstances; despite rain and floods and dark skies, I find something positive in the fact that we've had rain in the midst of this horrible, five-year drought.  :-D

Barrel of Fall Blossoms

This card uses a sweet image from A Day for Daisies and I'm finally using it to enter their monthly challenge.  Nothing like waiting until the end of the month, right?  I love those darling little birds flitting around.

Fall is definitely my favorite season so I colored the image in autumn colors using my ProMarkers, then die cut it.  I used one of my Sizzix embossing folders on the water-colored background paper to give it some woodgrain.  I actually embossed it while the paper was still a bit damp.  It really made the embossing stand out.  I used another of the dies from that set to cut that piece after the paper completely dried.

I used a Fiskars punch to cut the small leaves from scraps on my desk and layered them so they seem to have a dark shadow around them.  The strip of dp was a tiny scrap which I decided to mat and use rather than throw away.  The sentiment is hand cut and matted three times, again using up snippits.

Finally, I did the satin ribbon bow.  At first, I was going to dye it a fall color, but when I dropped it onto the card while reaching for the marker, it seemed to echo the white in the sentiment and in the image so I left it as it was.

The weather people have promised that by this weekend our temperatures will fall into the more seasonal mid- to low-80s.  Not to be ungrateful, but I'm still waiting for the low-70s days and into the really low-50s at night.  That's when I'll know for sure that fall is here to stay until well into December when winter finally arrives.  After all, these weather people are the same ones who promised us about 3 weeks ago that there would be no more 100 degree days.  Yeah, right!  :-D  Happy Stamping.  NanaConnie

Appreciate a Dragon Day

Did you even know there was a day for appreciating dragons?  Since I have a granddaughter who loves dragons, and is crazy about every dragon card I make, so I knew about that unique Holiday.

I'm going to use this as a Valentine card.  How could you not want to share love with this obviously adored dragon?  The image is from A Day for Daisies.

I used ProMarkers to color the image and then die cut it using one of my newest dies from Spellbinders.   At Christmas, my SIL gave me a gift card to Amazon and I went crazy buying new die sets.  I'm so happy!

The die cut frame was so delicate and fancy that all I did was add the stitching and the sentiment.  No ribbon, no flower embellies, no bling -- just the frame and faux stitching.

Warm & Cozy

I found an image at A Day for Daisies which will show you (without any words at all) exactly what my life looks like on cold, winter nights!  :-D  As many times as I've visited the ADFD store, I don't know why I hadn't seen this image before,  Maybe it's new to them as well as being new to me.   Either way, I have it now and will use it many times, I'm sure.

Have I shared with you that my fur babies have now decided that I must be their best friend?  It only happens in winter when they need a warm body to cuddle.

I chose my colors based on the photo inspiration at The Outlawz.

I colored my image with ProMarkers and then used a Memory Box Stitched Squares die to cut it.  I also cut the mat with another die from that same set.  The CS for the mat was embossed using my "Linen" folder.  I used kraft CS for the card base and stitched around it with white gel pen.

All the flowers come from my stash and I added glitter to each one.  The ribbon came from Really Reasonable Ribbon.

Hot Cocoa Weather

When the weather is nasty and the wind is howling, it's time to bring in the fur babies, make hot cocoa, and snuggle up on the couch, leaving the freezing cold outside where it belongs.  This darling image from A Day for Daisies reminded me of "hot cocoa evenings" from my childhood.  How could I resist making a card?

I started with the sketch from Atlantic Hearts, flipped side to side,
and used the colors from Inspired by Stamping.

The image and sentiment are both printed right onto the card front because I wanted a really CAS card.  I colored with my ProMarkers, added a spatter of glitter to the pompom on her cap, and inked the edges.  I sponged around the borders with an ink pad.  This card was the first done in colors that allowed me to use my brand new velvet ribbon that I got for Christmas.  I'm so crazy about that ribbon and I got it in three different shades of pink.  This one is the darkest and, yes, it's just as soft and scrumptious as it looks!

I'm really proud of myself for managing a post every day this past week.  I had a miserable bout of the flu last week and it's taking forever to shake it off.  I am up and about most of the day now but I did sneak off for a nap the last two days.  I still have no voice and I tire easily but I've gotten a lot done despite that.

Be sure to stop by tomorrow.  After a four month break, Open-Minded Crafting Fun is back and I've rejoined the team!  We're going to have monthly challenges now, starting on the 10th of each month.  You won't want to miss our first January challenge, with multiple sponsors for more chances to win!!  :-D  Happy Stamping.  NanaConnie

In the Meadow...

I really do love snowmen and have used several of them on my Christmas cards this year.  This latest one is a freebie from A Day for Daisies, where they have a "Modern Christmas" theme for their challenge.  Isn't he darling?  I know my friend, Lynn, will love it -- all that blue!  :-D

I chose the sketch from Sketch Saturday.

I colored with ProMarkers, added loose glitter to the snowman, and die cut the image with an oval die from QuicKutz.  The rectangle pieces are also cut with dies from QuicKutz.  The snowflakes are cut from sparkle CS (ice blue and winter white) with one of my new dies from Memory Box.

I used a scrap of ribbon, folded it, and tied it in the middle with sparkly twine.  I 'shredded' the twine ends so that I had individual fibers showing.

Creepy, Crawly, Spooky Halloween

Every once in a while, in the middle of all the DT creativity I do, I get to break out and do something just for me, like play with something from A Day for Daisies.   Today is one of those days.  :-D

If you go looking for this image, don't look for the moon in it.  I added that myself by drawing around a circle die because I thought it gave more of a Halloween/harvest look.  The image is colored with my ProMarkers and I cut it out with a die from Spellbinders.

I took all the little leaves which fell out of the die cut, colored them, and used some of them on the embossed tree in the background.  The black lace was added and I hand cut the printed sentiment, then colored the background on it, and adhered it across both the image and the lace.
