A Fairy Ring

Childhood memory time:  When I was about 4 or 5 years old, my family was spending the early part of the summer at my grandfather's cabin in the mountains.  My dad and I were walking in the small forest area behind the cabin when we found a small patch of mushrooms (or they may have been toadstools; I didn't know the difference at that point) but Dad said it was a "Fairy Ring" because they were all growing in circle.  I was so fascinated by that idea that I spent the next several years of my childhood believing in fairies and searching for their houses.  Come to think of it, I still search for their houses whenever I see a mushroom sprouting somewhere so maybe I still believe in fairies!  :-D

I made this card from bits of CS left in the scrap basket after all the fall cards last season.  I made it specifically for this challenge at Pixie's Snippets and I'm donating a brand new package of those Memory Box mushroom & toadstool dies as a prize for that challenge as part of the new "Ruby's Memory challenges."  You can read more about that and see the details about playing in the challenge by clicking on the Pixie's Snippets name above.  Briefly, you must use scraps and snippets on your card and it's only one entry per person, per challenge.

Mushrooms in the Forest

The challenge has returned to Sparkle n Sprinkle and I'm playing in it again.  I've used the mushrooms from the "Nature" stamp set and they were such fun to color.  One of the fun things about mushrooms and other such fungi is that they come in so many different colors that you can do nearly anything with them.

I decided on a near neutral color pallet with some pale salmon and honey yellow thrown in.  I used my ProMarkers and then cut the image with a die from QuicKutz.  The sentiment is printed with a computer font, then cut with another die from that same QuicKutz set.

Wanting to stay with that woodsy, natural idea, I tore some woodgrain CS (a scrap which needed to be used up instead of tossed out) and layered it behind the image.  The yellow bow was hand tied from gingham ribbon.  Finally, in keeping with the sentiment, I added something very tiny, sitting on top of one of the mushrooms - an itsy bitsy, die cut (Gina Marie), mouse.  Can you find him?  You'll have to look closely.  :-D

     Challenges:
A Perfect Time to Craft
Brown Sugar
Crafty Addicts
Kraftin' Kimmie
House that Stamps Built
Jo's Scrap Shack
Morgan's ArtWorld
Outlawz Twisted Thurs
Scrapper's Delights
Simon Says Stamp

That's all I have for today but I'm wishing each of my USA friends a marvelous 4th of July celebration tomorrow.  Let's hear it for patriotism -- God Bless America!  Happy Stamping.  NanaConnie

Fairy Glen

The image on this card is called "Mushrooms in the Forest" and it's one of the new (to me, at least) digital images I found over at Sparkle n Sprinkle, where they have a color challenge this month.  Although I've already done one card for that challenge, I bought this digi and used the colors again just because they seemed to really work for this image.

  Aug - Color Challenge

I took my design sketch from The Outlawz.

I colored the image with my favorite alcohol pens, ProMarkers, then cut and mounted it on a doily.  I used green CS for my card base, added glittery sheer ribbon and a bow, then layered on the image piece.

The corners are done with a die from Cheery Lynn Designs and those are the punched out, 'negative' pieces which would normally be thrown out.  I added glitter to the corner pieces, though it's a bit hard to see in the photograph.

The sentiment is my own, computer printed and cut out, then added to the image piece.

     Challenges:
Addicted to Stamps and More -- Make your mark (Coloring)
Crafty Bloggers Network -- Favorite things (mushroom images)
Get Inky -- Ribbon
I {heart} ProMarkers -- Doily
MarkerPOP -- Anything goes
Paper Girls - Glitter
Paper Playtime -- Lots of yellow
Stamp and Create -- Glitter

Happy Monday to all of you.  It's going to be a long day at work for me today but I'll get to rest when I get home this evening.  Little time for any crafting much before Wednesday afternoon (my treasured mid-week, half-day off) so you know I'll be looking forward to it.  In the meantime, Happy Stamping.  NanaConnie
