Basket of Candy Canes

It's time for our mid-month reminder at Jan's Digi Stamps and the challenge will run until Sunday, January 3.  Our theme is always "Anything Goes" and you may use images from any company.  However, if you do use a Jan's Digi Stamps image, your entry goes into a separate draw just for entries which used JDS.

Here's my DT card featuring one of Jan's newest sets (and it's ON SALE until Christmas!) called Candy Cane Basket.  This time, I've used the pre-colored image in the set and I've merged one of the sentiments so that it printed as part of the image.

This image brings back childhood memories of a round, wicker basket which sat on a table near the front door and during the Christmas season, it was always filled with candy canes.  It was so hard not to sneak one out of the basket for secret eating when nobody was looking but they were there for friends and family who stopped by.  Even the mail man or other delivery people who brought packages were rewarded with a candy cane treat from the basket.  If there were any left on Christmas Eve, they were taken from the basket and put on the tree.  If Santa didn't eat them instead of his cookies, then good little children could have one from the tree after Christmas dinner.

Thank you, Jan, for bringing back such delightful memories.  :-D

Challenge #2 at Jan's Digi Stamps

Our second challenge has started at Jan's Digi Stamps today and once again we have an "Anything Goes" theme for you.  I'm sharing two cards I've done using pre-colored images from the "Holiday Candy Deluxe 947" set.  I've been doing Christmas cards for the last couple of months but when time runs short or when you need a last minute card for an unexpected guest the in-laws brought along (!), pre-colored images can save the day.  Nearly every set from Jan's has both black and white outline images and pre-colored versions included in the same set.

Cut w/ Sizzix scalloped circle die
Snowflakes cut with Art Impressions dies
Sentiment (from this set) was hand cut
Wide ribbon with glittered edges
Red CS base

     Challenges:

Die-namics dies for image and frame, inlaid dies
Sentiment hand cut
Doodlebug dp
Lavender ribbon w/ hand tied bow

     Challenges:

The Cat's Candy

Before you read that post title and decide that I'm completely bonkers for thinking that cats like or have candy, let me tell you the quick story behind the phrase.

When I was a young child, perhaps 4 or 5 years old, if my parents didn't want me having more candy than was good for me - mostly during the fall holiday season - they would put the candy into a special vintage tin which had a picture of a cat on it.  That became known as "The Cat's Candy" and the rule was that I had to ask our pet cat if  I could have more.  She had to say "Yes" before I could have any more.  Of course, she never learned to talk so she never said that magic word.  lol

I saw this cat silhouette at Beccy's Place and the expression on the cat's face was so forbidding, I was reminded of "The Cat's Candy" from my childhood.  So, here's what I did...

The cat is one image and the little bag of candy is another.  Both are from Beccy's Place.  I merged them and colored with ProMarkers.  Since the optional twist at Beccy's this month is Fancy Folds, I followed Beccy's tutorial on Dutch Door Folds and did my first one.  It's a fun fold and looks more complicated than it is.  It also allows a card to stand on its own.

I used an oval die from QuicKutz to cut the image and used a smaller oval die to cut the sentiment.  The candy corn paper was in my scrapbooking stash and probably came from a DCVW stack.  That paper was so busy I decided to limit my embellishments to one, simple, bow which I tied by hand from black, grosgrain ribbon.
