Beccy's - Black, White, & 1 Color!

Time for the next 30 Days of Holidays theme that isn't a letter of the alphabet and Beccy has chosen Black and White + 1 Color.  I started browsing through my rather large collection of Beccy's Place images and found that most of them would have resulted in more than one color being used for the images to look properly 'finished.'  Then I ran across her "Mistletoe" image and knew it would be perfect!

I merged the sentiment (also from Beccy's Place) before printing the image, then colored it with my Ohuhu markers.  I used a bit of white and charcoal gray pencils on the berries to make them look spherical.   The image was cut with a QuicKutz die.  The two papers are both from the scrap basket and I think they originally came from a DCWV stack.

CASEd Mistletoe Card

This card is for the first of the random themes Beccy has on the 30 Days of Holidays this month.  Instead of a letter of the alphabet, she wants you to CASE one of your own cards.  I've cased lots of cards by other people but I don't know if I've ever CASEd one of my own.

Here's the one I did as the CASE card for this year, with the image reversed, and adjusted to a slim line card.  The greens are pastel and I stayed with beige for both the bow in the image and the one the card.  I had to use different dp because I didn't have any more of what I used last year but I also wanted to stay with my pastel Christmas colors.  The dp on this card is from Graphic 45.

The image corners are done with a Fiskars punch.  I used burlap twine and a scrap of fabric to make the bow.  I took some of the negative pieces from the corner punch to make the 3 dots in each of the diagonal corners.

Using punched out circles/dots is one of my favorite things to do.  It means I'm making embellishments without any cost, I'm not tossing out scraps, and I can make the dots look like gems if I put a little glitter on them or 'color' them with shiny gel ink.  This time I left them white because that had the most contrast against the black card front.

And here's the card I did last year using the same Mistletoe image from Beccy's Place.  "Mistletoe Kisses"

Happy Mistletoe

I know there's a specific day for celebrating Christmas, and for those of us in Canada and the US, Thanksgiving Day (even though we do that on two different days), and even your birthday whenever it rolls around, but I think we should recognize and celebrate as many days of "Happy Mistletoe" as possible throughout the holiday season.   It won't be as much fun kissing through our Covid-9 masks but...  Maybe we could turn it into an entire Festival so it can be celebrated in upcoming years when we aren't in the middle of a pandemic.  :-D

This card uses a fun image from Bugaboo Stamps which I colored last year and never used so it's definitely time now.  It was safely tucked away in the stash of Christmas images, along with about 6 others all colored and waiting.

I based this on the sketch from Sketch Saturday
although I had to adjust the exact placement
because of using up the negative die cut snowflake.

I also used colors from the bottom row at CMH Color Dare.

Colored w ProMarkers
Cut w QuicKutz die
Snowflake is a negative cut w Spellbinders die
Sentiment cut w Avery Elle die
Silver glitter added to make the snowflake
Silver ribbon and red ribbon were both scraps

Mistletoe Ornament

Yesterday, we finished the entire alphabet prompts and today is the last of the daily challenges which have been running for an entire month at Beccy's Place.  Today we get to do "Anything We Love."  I loved the Mistletoe which came in this set from Beccy's and had to use it before the challenges ended altogether.

However, I wanted to try something other than just another card so I turned it into a tree ornament!

Colors from Color My Heart #321, 3rd column
plus Gold on the twine bow.
I printed the mistletoe image onto CS twice, added glitter to the mistletoe berries, then after it dried, cut both of them at the same time with a die from QuicKutz.  I wanted the ornament to have a bit of weight so I cut six more of the same shape from white CS.  I sandwiched those six pieces between the two image pieces and glued them all together, adding the ribbon hanger to the center of the layers.

If I do another one I think, instead of gluing the layers, I'll try weaving narrow ribbon through the holes and I can tie the ends together to make the hanger.  It'll make it a bit more decorative and I could even add a splash of bright color simply by choosing the right ribbon.
