Live Simply

I adore the image at the Progressive Challenge for LeAnn's World 101 this month, which you'll find on their FB page.  It reminds me of how wonderful it can be to just live simply.

This is a one layer card and I printed the image right onto the card front, then colored with my ProMarkers, adding a few highlights with white gel pen.  The die cut sentiment was made with a die from Die-versions.  The original sentiment was inside a circle but I cut that away and used just the words.  No embellishments because I wanted this to be very CAS in keeping with the sentiment.

Penny Farthing

Several years before he passed on, my hubby owned a bicycle shop and his trademark symbol was a hand drawn penny farthing bicycle with a quirky little guy riding it.  After the shop was sold to his partner, hubby kept the reproduction penny farthing I had bought for him which hung in the shop window as an advertisement.

A dear blogging buddy (and now fellow DT  once again), Lynn H., sent me this fabulous die cut and I had to get it made into a card as soon as possible.  Sorry, I don't know the maker of the die.  In Lynn's honor, the design is CAS because she does the most incredible CAS designs I've seen.  Thanks, Lynn!

I started with a red card blank and added the die cut bicycle (which looks like it's climbing a hill so I'm going to pretend that was my intent all along as opposed to an error in placement which couldn't be undone!)

The sentiment is done with VersaMark ink, then heat embossed with white embossing powder.   I really love heat embossing!  There's nothing like watching it as the powder melts and takes on a shine.  As many years as I've been doing it, it still fascinates.

I found a scrap of gingham ribbon, tied a bow and added it as the only embellishment.

For the Big Wheel

Today is my day to post some Designer Inspiration on the MHK Designs blog and I hope maybe this card will encourage you to see how much fun masculine, vintage cards can be.  I love making masculine cards but combining that with vintage is wonderful.  This "Big Wheel" image from the "Wheely Like You" set was perfect for a card I'm giving to a lovely gent who recently got a promotion to upper level management.

I started with the sketch from Cheerful Sketches.

I used a masculine color combo of white, brown and beige, using CS for the die cut image, sentiment, the mats for those, and for the rectangles, then added a piece of plaid fabric (starched and ironed.)   I heat embossed a rubber-stamped strip with gold EP, dry embossed the card base using a Darice embossing folder, and used a few wheel and gear embellies to emphasize both the masculine and vintage elements of the card.

I love embossing as a technique, especially when I can do both heat and dry embossing on the same card.  All those layers add to the vintage feel and I added a few dark brown pearls to one upper and one lower corner.  I thought the gears and the pearls were enough embellishment so settled for just those two things.

Although this set comes with some really great sentiments, I printed one of my own this time because I wanted it to be specific to the job promotion.  :-D   After I had it all finished and photographed, I thought about how a bit of sponged distressing around the edges of each layered piece would have added a bit more vintage flavor but I guess that can wait until the next card.  :-D
