Sweet Tulip Mouse

This image is from Di's Digi Designs and I printed it ages ago.  It's been sitting in a folder, waiting to be colored.  I ran across it this past weekend when I was cleaning, clearing, and reorganizing the craft room.  I colored it with my Sanjoki alcohol ink markers, then cut it with an old Spellbinders die.  I inked the edges with an ink pad.

I decided it would make a great birthday card, so I printed the sentiment and cut it with an Avery Elle die.  The background dp came from a DCWV stack.  I found a long scrap of gold ribbon in the stash and  did both a wrap around the card front, plus hand-tied a bow.

Posting Letters to Santa

Another Friday, and another challenge starts at Crafty Catz.  Our theme is always "Anything Goes" but we also offer you an OPTIONAL theme and this week it's "Christmas in July."   We are sponsored by Di's Digi Designs and I used a cute image called "Micemas Post."

I used my Sanjoki markers to color the image, then cut it with a square die from Lawn Fawn.  The hologram paper is also from Lawn Fawn.  I wanted to dress up the square image a bit so I used a Fiskars punch on the corners.  The 'frame' behind the image piece is nothing more than a scrap of red tissue paper.

The sentiment was printed and fussy cut.  I found a scrap of sheer black ribbon and hand tied the bow.

     Challenges:

Hope to see you playing in our challenge this week.  Remember, it's Anything Goes but with all the "Christmas in July" challenges out there this month, why not try the optional theme, too?  Happy Crafting.  NanaConnie

Di's Digis DT Call

Di's Digi Designs is having a DT call this month and anyone who would like to apply needs to create a post on their blog, sharing 3 of their favorite creations, and if 1 of those featured an image from Di's, that would be great!

I've waited for a long time for this DT call!  I love Di's images and was devastated when I lost every one of the images I had bought over the years due to a flash drive crash last year.  There is no way I can afford to go back and repurchase each one I lost but maybe if I serve on her team, I can share some of my favorites with all of you and you'll become customers in my stead.  :-D

This card has a Di's image and I just completed it so I'm going to be entering it into a few challenges.  I colored with my ProMarkers, cut the image with a stitched die from Lawn Fawn, and layered it onto a circle cut with a QuicKutz die.   The papers are from an old DCWV stack.  The sentiment was printed and cut with an Avery Elle die.  I used my bow maker to tie the triple-loop bow.

     Challenges:

This is another favorite card which also features a Di's image and is fitting for the season since Halloween is just around the corner.

And finally, a card I made just a month or so ago using a gray scale image but not one from Di's; just a favorite of mine since I think the coloring is some of my best.

Cross your fingers for me, won't you"  I really hope to make the team.  :-D  Happy Crafting.  NanaConnie

I'm delighted to tell all of you that I've joined the DT at Pammie's Inky Pinkies!   It's a weekly challenge with a theme of "Anything Goes" each Monday (except when a 5th Monday occurs, & then we have a specific theme to follow.)  I've played over at PIP for a few years now and am thrilled to be part of the DT now.  :-D

This week, we're sponsored by Di's Digi Designs and I have a growing collection of her digis.  Today I used one called "I've Got This, Kitty."  I adore the idea of cute creatures sharing a day in the garden.

A Summer of Reading

I have a dear friend, a retired teacher, who spends her summers as a volunteer working with 1st and 2nd grade school kids, reading stories to them and encouraging them to explore the fun and mystery of books on their own.  Her birthday is next week and I did this card for her as a birthday present.

The image is from Di's Digi Designs.

I chose 3 of the colors from Coloring in Scrapland - green, blue & yellow.

I'm posting this early instead of waiting until the witching hour because I have someone here who can link up to all the challenges and that means I can stay away from the keyboard.  I'm still having serious shoulder problems when I try to type.  Coloring and crafting are getting better but there's something about the position in which I hold my shoulder when I'm at the keyboard that aggravates my shoulder injury.

Garden Kitty

I've been so steeped in Easter cards which feature bunnies and chicks, the fur babies were complaining that I wasn't giving felines a fair shake.  So, today I'm sharing a sweet little kitty from Di's Digi Designs.  He seems completely absorbed in meeting a new friend while sharing his garden.

I used ProMarkers to color, then cut with an octagon die from QuicKutz.  I added the deep blue frame, also cut with another octagon die from that same set.

The stitched ribbon is from my stash of Crafty Ribbons and the bow is one of my hand-sewn bows.  It was white but I used ProMarkers to 'dye' it the color I wanted.  I printed and hand cut the sentiment, then matted it and hand cut once again.  I added no other embellishment because I wanted this one fairly CAS.

A Rose for Mom

Isn't this the cutest image?   It's from Di's Digi Designs and their current challenge is a TicTacToe board.  I did the top row of  Sentiment/ Flower/ Hand-colored.

I stared with colors in the Color Dare #333 challenge at
Color My Heart.  I used colors from the first column
plus Clover green (3rd column) and neutrals of gray and brown.

I colored with ProMarkers and added little highlights with gel inks.  I cut a square, then used a Fiskars corner punch on all four corners.  I did the same with the two matting layers.

I chose a plaid paper from Lawn Fawn and used it for my card front.  The little strip is also from that same dp.

I printed and matted the sentiment, hand cutting each layer.  I used a Spellbinders die to cut the two white flowers from mulberry paper and used a mat behind them before adding the sentiment piece.

Christmas Mail Delivery

It's the 15th of the month so it's time for the next challenge at Creations in Pink.  Our theme is always "Anything Goes" as long as you use lots of pink in making your creation.  We have wonderful sponsors this month; Starz Stamps and Di's Digi Designs.  I'm using a darling image from Di's Digi Designs, called "Surprise for All" (which may have been retired since I can't find it in the shop.)  I chose this one from my own, rather large, collection of Di's stamps.

I colored the image with ProMarkers, then cut it with two related dies from Spellbinders and I inlaid the die cuts into each other.  I mounted that piece onto pink polka dot paper.  I printed the sentiment, hand cut it, and added it above the image.

I used green satin ribbon to tie a bow-tie bow and put it at the top.  Everything went onto a pink card base.

Halloween Wrap Up

I think this will be my last Halloween card but I'm not promising.  I keep finding other adorable images which somehow make their way into my collection and they just cry out to be used.  This darling little bear mummy from Di's Digi Designs is one of those.  :-D

I used ProMarkers to color the image and water color paints for the evening sky, moon glow, and ground.  Both the kraft card base and the image piece were die cut (QuicKutz) to give them lacy edges.  Despite the visual effect of that, this is still a very CAS design - 1 image put on top of a card base.  No ribbon, no flowers, no buttons, no twine, no embellishments except the witch which actually becomes part of the overall image.

The full moon with the witch is one of those die cut, foam, circles (QuicKutz) which I stamped with the flying witch.  I made half a dozen or more of them at the beginning of the fall season and I think I've used 2 or 3 of them.  If I don't use the rest, I'll hang onto them for next year.

I printed the sentiment, hand cut it, and matted it with a tiny scrap of dp before adding it to the card.

Teddy's Wagon

I've been digging through my collection of Di's Digi Designs again and found this image - perfect for a Thanksgiving celebration.

I used a sketch from The Outlawz, turned on its side
and colors (again) from Time Out.

I colored with ProMarkers, using muted autumn shades.  I trimmed the image to size and layered it onto a scrap piece of digital dp left over from another project.  I cut the orange frame with a Memory Box die and put that on top of the image and dp.

I found that ribbon in my autumn stash and added the two strips of it, top and bottom.  I printed the sentiment, hand cut it, and inked the edges before adding it.  I did small pearls in each corner, then added the two leaves and the pumpkin on Pop Dots for some dimension and texture.

I think this will be a perfect Thanksgiving card for one of the boys in my family.  :-D

Hedgies with Poppies

I think hedgies are my favorite critters (don't tell the cats!) especially for making cards.  Poppies are one of my favorite flowers so this darling image from Di's Digi Designs was a delight to color.  When I checked their current challenge theme, they want to see Fancy Folds so I took a standard gate fold card and turned it sideways so that the 'gate' opens top and bottom.  Sounds weird, I know, but let me show you the pic and you'll immediately see what I mean.

I used water colors on the image and cut it and the frame with scalloped circle dies from Sizzix.

I used kraft CS to make the card base and scored an 8.5 inch x 5.5 inch piece at the 1.5 inch line and the 2.5 inch line, leaving the middle section 5.5 x 4.25 (standard A2 size.)  The dp (Recollections) was a scrap and it worked perfectly with the color combo - beige background to complement the kraft and red flowers to pair up with the image and frame.

I folded on the score lines and adhered the image to the top flap.  I tied a bowtie bow, dyed it red with a ProMarker, and added it to the bottom of the image.  Finally, I printed the sentiment, hand cut it and matted it with a scrap of red CS, then hand cut it again, attaching it at the top of the card.

My next door neighbor loves poppies - any color, any size, and any variety so I'm giving this one to her for her birthday next month.  That should 'brighten her day' and make it an occasion.  :-D

The Felines Made Me Post This!

I had no idea when I did the previous post that I'd be posting twice today.  But the feline fur babies simply wouldn't let me do a salute to the world of canines without a balancing post featuring a cat.   Sigh.  If you want to see what upset them, check out this post (or scroll down one post.)

I found this image in my collection of Di's Digi Designs and decided that I would color it with my polychromos pencils.   When it was finished, I cut it with one of my newest dies, an Unbranded cross stitch rectangle, and I used the smallest one from that set to cut the sentiment.

I needed to get this one done quickly (since the fur babies were glaring at me) and I had already spent a good 45 minutes coloring, so I looked through various sketches and settled on the one from Cheerful Sketches.  Without a sketch, I can spend an hour or more fiddling with design ideas, laying things out, re-arranging them, and re-arranging again.  No time for that this morning!

Everything on the card came from scraps in my stash.  The bit of red ribbon and the polka dot dp worked well together so I grabbed them, trimmed the dp squares to a suitable size, distressed the edges a bit,  and layered them onto a card base made from a leftover piece of confetti CS.

I dug out one of those white bows I sew up by the dozens, used a marker to 'dye' it red, and added it as the one embellishment on the card.  I called it finished and rushed around to get it photographed and ready to post.

Sorry the ribbon is crooked in the photo but I didn't take time to adjust it and re-photograph.  At that point, the felines were pacing and making threatening noises so I just sat down and began typing up the post.  (If you don't see a post from me tomorrow, call the FBI!  The cats have probably done something horrible with my remains, like hiding the shredded pieces under the ribbon stash in the craft room.  lol)

The Hedgehog Taxi

I love this adorable image from Di's Digi Designs which makes me think of a taxi ride for a hedgie.  This little girl pulling her garden cart is so sweet.

I did something new for me - a Double Z Fold card.
Here's a side view photo to show how the two pieces are put together.

I colored with ProMarkers and watercolor pencils, then cut the image with a Gina Marie die.  I layered the image onto the top portion of the pink CS, and scored it twice to make the Z fold.  I took the white confetti CS (5 3/4" x 11"), scored it twice, and folded it into a larger Z fold.  The largest part (below the middle fold) is 5 3/4" x 5 3/4", making it a square card when all is folded together.  It will fit perfectly into a 6" x 6" envelope.

I put the two Z fold pieces together, using double sided tape first at the top of the card, then folded them up together to determine where the bottom of the pink CS should be.  Once I had that, I removed the covering strip from the double sided tape on the bottom of the pink CS and pressed them together.

I tied a bow tie bow from a bit of leftover lace, wrapping the center with satin ribbon and I added that to the bottom of the pink CS.  I printed the sentiment, hand cut it, and added it to the bottom of the inside Z fold.

It took me a little experimenting to figure out how to do the Double Z fold but I quite like it and will undoubtedly do more of them.

(Edited to add:  As I was adding the challenge links to this, one of my grandkids told me I could have searched PINterest or YouTube for instructions on Z fold cards but I didn't think of that when I was making it.  I checked and both of those are filled with instructions.  lol  Check them out if you think you might be interested in doing one of these.  :-D )

New Summer Hat

Back in  the day, ladies wore hats - highly decorated and decorative hats.  Going out without a hat was very bad taste and just not done.  I love hats and I do wish that wearing them was still in style.  Nothing starts off the summer fun more than getting a new summer hat.  :-D

This adorable image is from Di's Digi Stamps and I knew the minute I saw it that it called for blues and purples.  I colored with watercolor paints then cut the image with a die from Sizzix.  I inked the scalloped edges and started thinking about how I'd do the background.

Lying on my craft desk was a scrap of white lace but white just didn't make the image pop.  I grabbed my Dylusions Ink Spray (Grape) and used it to dye the lace.  The lace was marvelous when put onto white CS and really made the image the focus.

I found a scrap of dp in the basket, trimmed it to size, and placed it diagonally across the lace, then I added the image circle.   I sewed together one of my signature bows with a dark pearl and added it for embellishment.  The sentiment was printed, hand cut, and inked on the edges to match the image piece.

A Daisy Kind of Day

Before I show you my card for today, I want to tell you the back story as I heard it.  A neighbor of mine asked me to make an anniversary card for friends of hers and it had to have daisies on it.  Why daisies instead of romantic roses wrapped in diamonds?

This couple went to see a movie on their first date and she said she decided he was "The One" that very evening because he chose the movie and it was a chick flick just for her!  He took her to see "You've Got Mail" and she loved the line in the movie about 'daisies being her favorite flower because they are so friendly.'    She had two little daisies tucked into her wedding bouquet and every year on their anniversary, hubby gets her daisies - even if he has to pick them from their own garden.  :-D  What a sweetheart of a man.

So, here's my card done for their anniversary.  The image is from Di's Digi Designs.  I wasn't really sure about a woodland mouse as the main character on an anniversary card but, while I haven't had a report from the couple yet, my neighbor who commissioned it absolutely loved it.

I started with the sketch from Cheerful Sketches.

I used watercolor paints and polychromos pencils to color the image, then die cut it with a die from Sizzix.  The two main dp pieces are scraps from my basket and were cut with rectangle dies from Spellbinders and QuicKutz.  The yellow strip is hand-bleached CS.  All of those pieces and the sentiment pieces were inked with a distressed ink pad from Tim Holtz.

In my stash, I found three white daisies for embellishment and added them to the lower corner.  Everything is put onto textured, gold CS which I used for the card front.

On Top of the World !

On Top of the World is how I feel this morning!  It's my first official day as a member of the DT at Crafting with an Attitude.  We have a new challenge which begins on the first Thursday of each month and runs throughout the month.  Our challenges are always "Anything Goes."

This month, we are sponsored by Di's Digi Designs.  The image I used is from my own collection and is called "King of the Castle."  However, when I searched the store I found only a different version of this stamp.  It has a butterfly instead of the little birds.  Still, it's really adorable so well worth checking out.

I was influenced by the colors in the Incy Wincy challenge.

I used ProMarkers to color the image and cut it with one of my border dies from Spellbinders.  I cut three scraps of CS with the same border die and layered them all together for some texture and dimension.  I did my best to match those to colors in the image.

I made a "bow tie" bow from scraps of lace (dyed pink with a ProMarker) and satin ribbon for the wrap, then printed and hand cut the sentiment.

Daisies for Your Birthday

By now most of you think of me as a Crazy Cat Lady and, while I share my life with felines at the moment, the truth is I'm an animal lover.  Any kind of animal; well, maybe not poisonous snakes but nearly anything else.  Never-the-less, I was  browsing the store at Di's Digi Designs, saw this darling kitty carrying a double arm full of daisies, and I fell in love.  Had to have it, had to use it right away!

I colored with ProMarkers and pencils, then die cut the image with a Sizzix die.  I cut the pink frame with another die from that set and started my search for background dp.  I found an old Recollections stack and it had that lovely pale pink, sort-of-flowery paper.  Perfect!

I added deep pink lace, then layered on the image.  I put 3 little, metal, brads in the corners and dug through my stash of  cut and embossed flower petals, selected a single layer, and added a small, pearl button to the center.  The last step was printing the sentiment and adding it above the image.

Poppies and Hedgehogs

I fell in love with this darling hedgehog image (Di's Digital Designs) and decided to use it in their Tic Tac Toe challenge.  I did not only the top row (ribbon/2 dp/hand colored) but also the 3rd column (hand colored/2 or more die cuts/flowers.)

I colored the image with ProMarkers and a touch of sparkle gel ink on the glass jar, then cut it with a square, stitched die from Lawn Fawn.  I framed that with a leftover piece which had been cut with a die from Spellbinders.  I put all of that onto pale green dp and added a border of orange polka dot dp to 2 sides of the square.

I found some complementary orange striped ribbon which I wrapped around the card front and then added the single butterfly embellishment (Cheery Lynn die.)  The sentiment is rubber stamped.

Can't Be Late!

The latest Progressive Challenge has started over at The Outlawz and the freebie image this month is from Di's Digi Designs.  I loved it the minute I saw it and couldn't wait to use it so now I've added one more birthday card to my stash.

I based my card design on the sketch from Mojo Monday.
I had to modify it slightly so I could make a square card
and so I wouldn't cover up any of the image.

I used my ProMarkers to color it, then cut it with a double stitched die from Die-Versions.  I cut the two frames with larger dies from that same set and those are not layers but insets.  The orange papers are from Stampin' Up and the brown and beige are from my CS stash.

I tied the double bow with 1/8th inch ribbon.  The sentiment was printed, die cut, and matted.  Now it's ready for a special occasion birthday.
