Golden Nativity

OK, I'm taking a break from Halloween today and am sharing something Christmas instead.  I got some new die sets over the weekend and I admit I went a little crazy on making Christmas cards with them.  I'll share those with you over the next month or so.  Here's the first one.

Nativity die is from Cheapo Dies and I used it to cut a scrap of gold glitter paper.  The "Christmas" sentiment was cut from Doodlebug glitter paper with a die from Memory Box.  Snowflake EF by Cuttlebug.  Everything was mounted onto red card base.  CAS design for easy mailing.

Happy Halloween Cat

A short while back, I was lucky enough to be a challenge winner and Dies R Us was the sponsor of that particular challenge.  As my prize, I chose a Poppystamps die plus one other, then I bought a couple more dies because I never get away with spending only the gift certificate amount.  I'm sure you know how that goes!  ;-O

Anyway, the die cut cat is the one from Poppystamps and it's perfect for their "Cards for Kids" theme this month.  The other layers behind the cat, including the scalloped rectangle, were cut with Memory Box dies and the witch's hat was cut with a Cheery Lynn die.

The bow was made on my bow maker and the ribbon is from Really Reasonable Ribbon.

     Challenges:

Are you tired of Halloween cards yet?  Well, you may want to skip a visit tomorrow and again on Thursday, and again... oh, never mind.  You know they're fun to make and to see.  Happy Crafting.  NanaConnie

Live, Laugh, Love with Roses

Today I'm using another of the stamped images given to me ages ago by someone in my crafting group.  I really wish I knew which company had made this stamp so that I could give them credit but I have absolutely no idea.  I do know I love the way it colored up.

Ghost

Each and every month I like to play along in the progressive challenge at Limited Runs and this month they have given us a perfectly sweet Halloween ghost!  He was so delightfully simple that I decided to keep the card CAS as well.  I don't know what the image is actually called but I call him "Mr. Bowtie" in honor of the bowtie I made for him.

I think one of the things I  love about Halloween cards (and I've done a lot of them this week - 2 of which haven't even been posted yet!) is getting to include my favorite color of purple.  How many of you can remember when black and orange were the only Halloween colors?  Two or three decades ago, purple got added to the mix and I was absolutely delirious.  Then olive green showed up pretty regularly and now it seems we have four colors which are accepted as "Halloween colors."  I'm OK with that as long as they don't take my purple away.  :-D

A Walk in the Woods

A week or so ago, I shared with you one of my DT cards for Conie Fong which featured the new Princess Aria Fairytale Cottage image (see that card here.)  Now Conie has released just the Fairytale Cottage Background Scene which is fabulous enough to stand alone or to be used a a mergeable background.  Here's what I did to showcase the image, making it a lovely autumn walk through the woods.

I pulled colors from My Favorite Things.

Colored w ProMarkers & water colors
Square background 'marbled' w water colors
Cut w QuicKutz die
Polka dot dp from Stampin' Up
Sheer ribbon & triple loop bow

     Challenges:

Come play with us this month.  You still have time and you can enter either of our challenges; one for just coloring and one for completed projects.  Come to our Facebook page, find the challenge album you prefer, and enter.  Happy Crafting.  NanaConnie

Batty Gnome

I'm really cranking on Halloween cards this week and this darling gnome from SheepSki Designs is the newest one in my collection of digital gnomes (most of which are currently missing!)  I love him perched on his huge pumpkin, surrounded by his batty friends.  :-D  It's called "VladnMia."

One of the things I love about autumn/Halloween cards is the bright colors of fall.  If I have to  choose between brights or pastels, I'll go for bright colors every time, except for spring cards. And even in the spring, I use bright colors on Easter eggs.  :-D

Colored w ProMarkers & gel pens.
Cut w Unbranded die
Edges inked w ProMarker
Sentiment printed & cut w Unbranded die

Witch's Clothes Line

It may come as a shock to some of you that even witches have to do laundry and hang things to dry, but I offer this as proof!  Why do they have to hang their clothes instead of just running them through the dryer?  Ask Hansel or Gretel - most of their huts deep in the forest have no electricity so the washing has to be done in a tub and clothes are then hung out to dry.  I'm not sure how the cat on this line got washed!  lol

This card is done completely with small die cuts taken from scraps in the basket on my work table.  The laundry line itself was cut three times in order to get the various Halloween colors.  Another way of dealing with the loss (however temporary I may hope it is) of my collection of some 9,000+ digis.

Dies used are:
Clothes line = Cheery Lynn (mounted on dimensional tape)
Moon = QuicKuz
Bats = Impression Obsession

Hybrid Rose

I have to share a minor 'tragedy' which has affected my ability to use digital images for the time being.  A little bit of history before I explain - about 5 years ago, I suffered a huge computer crash, had to replace my computer, and was unable to retrieve anything from my hard drive.  At that time, I probably had close to 1,500 digital images from 50 or 60 different companies.  Needless to say, I was heart broken.  But I learned from my mistake and, when I began rebuilding my digi collection, everything was saved straight to a thumb drive.  No more hard-drive-crash-danger in my future!

A little over a week ago, I went to the thumb drive to get an image I wanted to print and discovered that all my digi files (saved in folders by company name) between the letter "C" through and including most of those starting with "S" were gone!  Those missing files happened to include digis from three of my Design Teams so this was a rather serious problem.  From now on, I'm downloading all digis to both a thumb drive and the hard drive!

I began searching with various tools to see if they could be recovered (I'm NOT technologically skilled) and while I had little luck in actually finding them, I did figure out that the files were probably still on the thumb drive, but for some reason they had just become "invisible."  At that point, I turned the thumb drive over to someone much more savvy than I, and began looking thought my physical folders of stamped images waiting to be colored and used.  Many of those had been stamped by other people and given to me over 3 or 4 years of meeting with my craft group.

I also dug out the rather limited number of rubber stamps I still have (I did a through clearing out job a couple of years back but there are always certain stamps one just can't give away.)  When I say "limited number," I'm comparing that to the literally hundreds of rubber and clear stamps I had at that time which now has been narrowed to about 100.  So, I'm not precluded from card making but over the next few weeks, you may find me talking about stamps from unknown sources which means I'm using an image someone else stamped and gave to me.  That's the case with today's card which has these lovely hybrid roses.

Colored with gel pens and ProMarkers, then fussy cut with scissors.  Pop Dots used to mount it to a scrap of pink CS.  Mesh ribbon and sheer ribbon for the bow are both scraps and the bow was 'dyed' with a ProMarker to get the exact green I wanted.

Have yourself a great day and Happy Crafting.  NanaConnie

Hug a Soft Kitty

It's Monday and time for a new weekly challenge at Pammie's Inky Pinkies!  Our theme is always "Anything Goes" (except on a 5th Monday and then we have a theme) so there's absolutely no excuse not to come and play with us.

Pammie herself is sponsoring the challenge this time and she's giving a gift coupon for Mo's Digital Pencil.   I used one of Mo's sweet images called "Soft Kitty."

I used colors from the Tic Tac Toe board (#411) at
Color Dare. I actually did 4 of the possibilities:
1st Column + Top & Center Rows + Diagonal (left bottom to top right)

Colored with ProMarkers & pencils, then cut with QuicKutz die.  Both mats were also cut with QuicKutz dies and the Goldrush CS (which looks more orange in the photo but is really very golden IRL) was embossed with Linen EF.  Spiderweb stamped onto acetate and cut with Spellbinders circle die, trimmed to fit the corner.  The "Boo" is a metallic die cut.

     Challenges:

That's a I have for today but don't forget to come play with us this week.  We love seeing what you create.  Happy Crafting.  NanaConnie

Unstoppable Groundhog

If you saw my post yesterday, I'm sure you think I'm obsessed with that sparkly, copper-colored, ribbon but I actually selected the ribbon and made the bow for this card a month or more ahead of yesterday's card.  It's really just a coincidence that the two card are being posted on consecutive days.

The sentiment seems to fit my life, at least where big things are concerned.  I can get started on small projects (breathing, getting out of bed, taking a nap) but the big things (Should I be adventurous and get dressed?  Should I just stay in my PJs all day?) take much more effort and it's often difficult to actually get started.

While I have no idea who created this fun and funny groundhog because a friend stamped it and sent it to me along with about a half dozen others all featuring the odd animal, the sentiment says it all as far as I'm concerned.  :-D

Colored with ProMarkers; image and frames cut with dies from Spellbinders & QuicKutz.  The papers are all scraps and are from a Jillibean Soup stack.  The smaller scraps have been punched on 3 sides with a Fiskars border punch.  I've already explained about the bow and that ribbon is from Really Reasonable Ribbon.

     Happy Crafting.  NanaConnie

JDS New Set - Harvest Scarecrow

Today I've merged some of the secondary images from the Jan's Digi Stamps newly released set called "Harvest Scarecrow."  Obviously, there's no scarecrow on my card but here's a quick look at the full set.

I colored with ProMarkers and cut it to size for the card front.  I wrapped brown and green sparkle ribbon (Really Reasonable Ribbon) around two sides of the image piece, then used orange sparkle ribbon (also RRR) to tie a double loop bow.  It's a very CAS design except for the ribbon.

I used the colors from My Favorite Things.

Don't forget that you still have until Sunday, October 4 to play in our September "Anything Goes" challenge at Jan's Digi Stamps and you can get there by clicking on our name.  See you there!   Happy Crafting.  NanaConnie

Spooky Night

I was in the mood to clear the clutter off my crafting table and got a good start by grabbing the "round file" and scooping tiny scraps into it.  Then I found some larger scraps and didn't want to toss them out because, who knows, they might be exactly what I needed for a particular size die.  I debated that with myself for a minute and then decided to prove to my "toss everything" side just how valuable they could be.  Next thing you know I was making this Halloween card and everything on it was cut from a left over scrap, including the orange background.  :-D

BTW, my craft table still needs to be cleared off !

Dies I used:  1. Tree/Fence/Cat - Die-Versions; 2. Flying Witch - Yvonne Creations; 3. Bats - Impression Obsession; 4.  Moon - QuicKutz    Some pieces were cut more than once in order to add a different color to one part of the die cut, e.g. the cat, the witch's hat, and the straw of the broom.  The tree/fence piece has an embossed 'waffle pattern' texture though it's a bit hard to see in the photo.

Miss You

I created this card for a young man who has been separated from his favorite pet for what seems like a lifetime to both of them.  His mom had this photo, sent it to me, and now I've sent the finished card to her so that she can give it to Jacob.

Image is a photo, cropped to fit, then cut with a die from QuicKutz.  Matted in white and layered onto a die cut (Spellbinders) mat.  Everything went onto a white card base and I left it with no embellishments for a very masculine, CAS design.

That's all I have for today so Happy Crafting.  NanaConnie

I love this image and sentiment from QKR Stampede where a new challenge is starting today.  Our challenges over there were monthly challenges all summer long but now we've gone to 2 challenges per month, starting on the 1st and the 15th of each month.  Just in case you hadn't noticed, today is the 15th of September!  Yes, already!!  It's going to be Christmas before you know it.  :-D

Princess Aria & her Fairytale Cottage

Last week, I shared with you the first of the new Princess images from Conie Fong and today I'm sharing Princess Aria Fairytale Cottage.  I loved coloring this one!  I decided right away that I wanted Princess Aria to pop off the background so I focused the brighter colors on her and colored the background cottage scene in very light neutrals with only the palest blue in the stream.

FYI, the cottage scene is also available as a completely separate image and I'll be sharing that one with you later this month.

I hope you're having a fabulous weekend.  Our weather has cooled down into the mid- to high-80s (F) but our air is still horribly contaminated because of the smoke from all the wild fires so we are all still staying inside and breathing only filtered air.  I'm sure venturing outdoors without a full hazard suit could be dangerous so I'll use that as an excuse to stay inside and make some more cards.  :-D

Harvest on the Veranda

When I saw this freebie image from Beccy's Place (for their challenge this month), I was instantly taken back to my childhood !  My grandparents lived in a large house (which seemed huge to me until I drove passed it 50 years later and realized it was large but not the size I had in my memories) on a few acres of land, and they had fruit and nut trees plus a large plot on which they grew vegetables, corn, and a small patch of wheat, oats, or rye, rotating them every year.

Every autumn, they would harvest apples, pears, pumpkins, potatoes, and whatever other veggies had ripened later than the usual summer picking.  Those marvelous things would always end up piled on the veranda which completely encircled the house.  Grammy would pull up chairs and baskets and we would sort through everything, dividing up things which would go to neighbors and friends, and larger quantities which would go to market.  There was always a huge pallet packed with boxes of things which would be donated for distribution to those who weren't as fortunate.

Grammy had a favorite straw hat which she always wore when tending the garden and it often hung on the back of a chair when we worked in the shade of the porch.  So you can see why I grabbed this image right away and had to do this card - a salute to my Grammy.  And, yes, to answer your unasked question, my blog is named for this same Grammy but that's a different story.  :-D

Thank you, Beccy, for the fabulous memories!

The theme at the Beccy's Place challenge is always "Anything Goes" but Beccy gives us an option which we can use if we want to challenge ourselves a bit.  This month, the option is to CASE something you have made previously and I did that.  I CASEd a card I did only two or three weeks ago.  You can see that one here.

Autumn Greetings

It's time for the latest Progressive Challenge at The Outlawz and this month, Jan's Digi Stamps is sponsoring that challenge.  The image I used was provided as a freebie to those who played in last month's Progressive but being on the DT for Jan's I had an advantage in that I had the entire set so I merged not only the acorns but also the sentiment which is part of the entire set called "Signs of Autumn."

Birthday Hyacinths

My card today was done using the September recipe at the Crafty Chefs FB group - a group of crafters who play together each month because we like to stretch our comfort zone a bit.  One of the group puts together a 'recipe' of 4 things which MUST be used on your creation and another list of 3 things which CAN be used, and then each person shares their completed project by posting it to the FB page.  No prizes, no deadlines, no obligations, just a group of crafty friends having fun.  Feel free to join us any time you like.

This month, Linda undertook the recipe and she came up with this:

MUST USE:
Simply square (square card base)
Glitter or Sparkle
Embossing (wet or dry)
Blue and Brown

Can Use:
Add flowers
Add pearls

Here's my card - a small card, 4" x 4" and I made my own envelope for it.  I did use all the items on both lists.

Harvest Moon

It's Labor Day here in the USA, and out on the West Coast we're suffering under the hottest days we've had in an unusually hot summer but somewhere, the fall harvest is about to start and the air is cooler .  That means the full moon this month, the Harvest Moon, will be shining down on fields of pumpkins and corn stalks and the autumn holidays will be upon us without warning!

Today, you're getting another 2 for 1 - we're starting a new challenge at Jan's Digi Stamps and also at Pammie's Inky Pinkies.  The theme for each of those challenges is "Anything Goes" and Jan's is the sponsor at PIP this week so it made sense for me to use the same card as my DT creation for both teams.

Don't forget, at Jan's, we have two winners every month; one using a JDS image and the other using any image on their projects.  My card today features JDS images from the "Autumn Corn Sheaves" set which I merged before coloring them.

I want to see you playing along at Jan's Digi Stamps this month.  The challenge runs until Sunday, October 3.  Don't forget, if you use a JDS image, you really increase your chances of winning more beautiful sets because all the JDS image projects go into a completely separate draw.

Cats Sleep Anywhere

Today I have the honor of being a Guest Designer for the Songs and Rhymes Challenge at The Outlawz.  Each challenge runs for two weeks and uses song lyrics or a poem as the theme for each challenge.  The challenge starting today is using this delightful poem which is all about cats - right up my alley!

Cats Sleep, Anywhere - Eleanor Farjeon

Cats sleep, anywhere,
Any table, any chair
Top of piano, window-ledge,
In the middle, on the edge,
Open drawer, empty shoe,
Anybody's lap will do,
Fitted in a cardboard box,
In the cupboard, with your frocks-
Anywhere! They don't care!
Cats sleep anywhere.

The sponsor for this challenge is Bugaboo Stamps and I've merged two Bugaboo images to make this card.
