Land of Fruit and Nuts

Beccy's Place is always one of my favorite places to play and Beccy always offers a freebie, which you can use if you wish.  I usually work with something from my collection of her images, as I did this time.  I adore this little critter and he was perfect for a Welcome card for a new neighbor who moved here (California) from Wisconsin.

I colored with ProMarkers, adding highlights with a white gel pen, then cut the image with a hexagon die from Spellbinders.  The card base is made from smoky gray CS, embossed with my 'Linen' folder.  The dp was a left over scrap from previous projects which seemed to work well with the overall design.  I cut it so that I could line up one of the 'corners' of the hexagon with one of the half-diamonds on the paper.

I printed the sentiment, hand cut it, and added it to the upper corner.  Finally, I 'dyed' one of my hand sewn bows with a lilac ProMarker, added a gem to it, and called the card finished.  It's a card for a guy so I kept embellishment to a minimum.

Home for the Holidays

I'm playing catch up again at the 30 Days of Christmas going on at Beccy's Place this month.  So, I'm doing two posts today and this first one is for the alphabet prompt "H."   I used this cute little House image from Beccy's and went with the theme "Home for the Holidays."  There's nothing I love more than being with the family for Christmas.

Beccy should love this one since it's done in the national colors of Australia - green and gold.

I also used Hexagons, Hunter Green, and Harvest Gold.  The Hexagons were cut with a die from Quick Cuts and the "Merry Christmas" was cut with a die from Elizabeth Craft Designs.  The CS and papers were all in my stash and no new papers were Harmed in the making of this card.  :-D

Celebrating a First Tooth

My children (and grandchildren, for that matter) are far too old for me to be thinking about the great occasion of a "First Tooth !!" but while reorganizing some of the storage in my house, I did run across a little plastic pill bottle with baby teeth in it.  As I read the faded label, written in my mother's handwriting so many years ago, I discovered that throughout my childhood she had saved each of my baby teeth as I lost them to the new, permanent teeth.  So, I'm guessing that the "first tooth" coming in was probably important enough to celebrate.  In any case, this card celebrates that great occasion.  :-D

The image is from the Progressive Challenge on Sasayaki Glitter's Facebook site.  It's called "Baby Boy with Monkey."

I started with the sketch from The Outlawz
and colors suggested by Double D.

I colored him with my Promarkers, then cut him out with a hexagon die from QuicKutz to match up with the hexagon paper I had chosen.  The patterned papers came from Recollections and everything was matted with dark chocolate CS.  The card front was embossed using my "Linen" folder and I added the two pearls for some simple embellishment.  They also give some great texture, as do all the layers.

If a design can be simple with all those patterns on it, this one certainly is it.  :-D
