Here Comes Santa Claus

This morning, I have the honor of being a Guest Designer for the Songs and Rhymes challenge at The Outlawz.  The challenge always uses lyrics as the inspiration for their challenge and this week it's "Here Come Santa Claus."

I've done a pretty simple card using all die cuts instead of a hand colored image but I really like it even though it's different from what I normally create.

I used dies from Die-Versions (Santa Sleigh and Reindeer), Art Impressions (Snowflakes), and Die-namics (North Pole sign.)  All of the snowflakes are heat embossed with clear EP.  Everything was adhered to blue CS.  No embellies, just the die cuts.

     Challenges:

Double D
Double Trouble  (all 3)

Is That All???

Every neighborhood, every classroom, probably every family, has one - the kid who rips into a huge pile of presents, opens every one, and then wants to know if that's all there is!  lol  You'd think Santa would put them on a special Naughty List and bring them only one present next year.

This fun image is the freebie from the Limited Runs Progressive Challenge on their Facebook page.  I colored the image with ProMarkers and gel inks, then die cut it with a stitched die from Cottage Cutz.  I cut a scrap of red CS with a CUTplorations, wonky-stitched, die and mounted the image onto it, offsetting it to one side.

I found some silver, grosgrain ribbon in my stash and wrapped that around the CS piece, then I added the sentiment which had also been cut with a die from Cottage Cutz.  The die I used was larger than the sentiment so I had to make an adjustment and cut twice to get the size I wanted.

Everything was mounted onto a navy blue card base and I added three glittered snowflakes with gems for a splash of bling.

Tilda's Presents

This is my second post for the day and I'll have another one in a few more hours.  This one is for the challenge at Simply Magnolia and I'm using one of my Tilda stamps to celebrate Christmas.  You'll probably see me posting Christmas cards every day from now until Christmas because that's about all I've made for the last 5 weeks and I still need many more.

I started by choosing the papers I wanted to use on this and they are all from Paper Pizzazz.  Once I had those chosen, I could select the ProMarker colors I wanted and get the image colored.  I cut the image and the three layers beneath her with Tonic Studio dies.

The red ribbon with the white snowflakes was in my Christmas stash and I honestly don't remember where I got it.  I printed and hand cut the sentiment and mounted it on top of the ribbon.  The leaves were cut with a die from Cheery Lynn (my first ever Cheery Lynn die!) and I added loose glitter to the leaves.  The little red dots on the leaves and on the hand-sewn bow were hand punched and added as 'holly berries.'   Everything went onto a kraft card base.

     Challenges:
Cupcake Inspirations

Fussy and Fancy
Incy Wincy
Magnolia-licious
Outlawz Greetings
Pammie's Inky Pinkies
Polkadoodles
Winter Wonderland

Don't forget, there will be one more post today so be sure to check back later.  If you're looking for the post for 2 Crafty Critter Crazies, just scroll down one post.  Happy Crafting.  NanaConnie

Christmas at a Snail's Pace

Good Friday Morning all of you!  If it's Friday, it must be time for another QKR Stampede challenge.  I want to share a card with you this morning which will explain why your Christmas packages may arrive late or even not at all.  You can use the information to explain to all the kids and grandkids why there are no presents under the tree for them.

Santa apparently ran short of reindeer this year, or maybe they're all in the stable, hung over from too much Christmas cheer but, whatever the reason, Santa seems to have hired a snail to replace them.  Unfortunately, like most snails, he's completely unused to the ice and cold which explains the blue color of his skin.  He's traveling awfully slowly; maybe he's frozen solid and not going anywhere!  But then, he's carrying his home with him, so maybe he doesn't care.  :-D

I used colors from the TicTacToe Color Dare at Color My Heart
only this time I did the diagonal bottom left to top right.

I used ProMarkers to color the image, then cut it with a rectangle die (Spellbinders.)  I inked the edges and cut a tiny, decorative corner (also Spellbinders) which is off -the-edge of the image piece.

I used a Darice EF to emboss the scrap of distressed, red CS.  I added grosgrain ribbon and a lace, bow-tie bow which I dyed red with a Copic marker.  It didn't really need any more embellishment so I left it rather CAS.  It's going to be a perfect masculine Christmas card.

     Challenges:
AAA Cards

Aud Sentiments
Crafting from the Heart
Cutie Pie
Dragonfly Dreams
Outlawz Greetings
Pammie's Inky Pinkies
Sasayaki Glitter
Time Out

That's it for today but I do hope you're going to come and play with us at QKR Stampede this week.  Remember, you can use any image from any company and our theme is Always Anything Goes.  However, if you do use a QKR image, your entry goes into a completely separate draw for only QKR (or Eureka Stamps) and your chances of winning in that draw are huge!  Happy Crafting.  NanaConnie

Checking His List

We all know that Santa checks his Naughty or Nice list at least twice for accuracy, but the truth is he knows if you've been bad or good even without checking.  lol  So, since it's another Friday, and since you've obviously been "good" enough, QKR Stampede is bringing you a new "Anything Goes" challenge.

I've used a QKR image called "Checking It Twice" and I think it's adorable!

I colored with water colors and used ProMarkers to add the shading and highlights.  I cut the image with a pinpoint die from Memory Box.  The two matting pieces were cut from red and green CS using a Lawn Fawn, cross stitch, die.  I layered those three pieces together and found a pale green card blank for the base.

I cut one more piece - the snowflake (Intricutz die) - added glitter to it, and then began laying out all the pieces onto the card front.  I printed and hand cut the sentiment, matting it before adding it to the card.

The design is pretty CAS but that will make it good for mailing and so many of my family cards go out of state.  It's also a great masculine card for one of the grandkids (or even great grands!)

Every year, as the holidays get closer and closer, it's always a toss up for me as to whether I love winter and Christmas best or autumn and Thanksgiving.  Both are family times and I love that the cold weather means staying inside in the craft room so thinking about that today, winter wins!  Tomorrow, who knows?  :-D

     Challenges:
Addicted to Stamps
As You Like It
Crafty Hazelnut's
Creative Fingers
Di's Digi Designs
Hiding in My Craft Room
Lil Patch of Crafty Friends
Outlawz Festive Fri.
Pattie's Creations
Winter Wonderland

Come play with us, won't you?  It's Anything Goes and you are not required to use a QKR Stampede image.  However, if you do, then your entry goes into a separate draw for QKR only and that really increases your chances of winning!   Happy Crafting.  NanaConnie

Santa on Vacation

This is my second post for today.  If you're looking for my QKR Stampede DT card, scroll down one post.

This post features my card made for the final day of the Christmas in July daily challenges at Catch the Bug.  We had to make a project inspired by this photo.

Here's where inspiration took me.  When the Christmas rush is over and supervising the elves in the toy shop isn't yet needed for next year, Santa takes a tropical vacation.  :-D

I colored the image with ProMarkers and gel inks, then carefully fussy cut it.  The 'sand' and sea in the scene are made from patterned paper, but I used a white gel pen to make the breaking waves in the ocean.

The sky is done on white CS with water color pencils and gamsol for blending.  I printed the sentiment, cut it by hand and added it to the card front.  The three tiny pearls are the only embellishment but there is great visual texture from the four layers - 3 dp plus the image.

     Challenges:
ABC Christmas (on a beach - lol)
Aud Sentiments
Crafting by Designs
Crafty Gals Corner
Crafty Hazelnut's Christmas
Crafty Hazelnut's Patterned Paper
Digi Doodle Studios
Ellibelle's Crafty Weds.
Outlawz Festive Friday

Star Stampz
That's Crafty

Don't forget - today and tomorrow are the last days of the Challenges for Days Birthday Bash and all you have to do to win is to comment on my post (HERE) and on the Birthday Bash post at Challenges for Days.  There are great prizes to be won from not only some lovely sponsors on Saturday but also from each of the CfD List Manager volunteers who have offered prizes of crafting goodies.  Check it out and be sure to leave comments on all the blogs which are offering prizes.  See the list on the CfD blog.

That's all I have for today but you did get a "twofer" so no complaining.  :-D  Happy Crafting.  NanaConnie

Christmas Diets (Good Grief!)

This fun and funny image from QKR Stampede (Santa in Chimney 16708) shows my #1 problem every holiday season.  Thank goodness I don't have to slide down chimneys on Christmas Eve!  We're starting a brand new "Anything Goes" challenge today and we also have an optional theme of "Santa" if you want to use it.

I based my card on Sketch 124 from Sweet Sketch Weds. 2.
This challenge we get to choose our favorite sketch
of all the ones used in 2017.

I colored with ProMarkers, then cut the image with a die from Spellbinders.  I cut a burgundy frame for the image with another die from that same set.  Everything went onto a heather gray piece of CS which had been embossed with my "Linen" folder.

I added only one, small, ribbon bow which had been white but I 'dyed' it with my marker.  The sentiment is mine, based mostly on the expression on Santa's face.  :-D

Christmas Eve Party Mice

Here's my second post today, again using a borrowed House Mouse stamp and other supplies.  I'm not sure which of the two images is the cutest.  If you haven't seen my previous post today, scroll down and check it out, then let me know which image is the cutest.  :-D

This is what happens when the Mousies' Christmas Eve party runs too late into the evening and nobody has enough energy to tote the kids upstairs to their beds.  The parents stoke up the fire, tuck the sleepy kids into Santa caps, and stumble off to their own beds.  I'm not sure how Santa is going to get down that chimney with the fire roaring but since he has holiday magic, I'm sure he'll manage somehow.

I colored with ProMarkers this time, then cut the image and punched the corners.  I added a rectangle of patterned dp (a scrap) as a mat for it and corner punched it, also.  The die cut doily was done with die from Spellbinders.  The dp is from SU and is double sided so I got to choose the side I liked best.

I printed the sentiment, hand-cut it, and inked the edges with a marker.  I liked the lacy doily and decided that it was best without ribbon or other embellishments (which are currently in short supply.)

Santa Always Delivers

Well, it's Friday again and QKR Stampede has a new challenge up.  We always have an Anything Goes theme but we also offer an optional theme if you choose to use it.  Our optional theme this week is "Christmas Cards."  I chose a delightful "Santa" from the QKR store and a simple but appropriate sentiment, "Merry Christmas."  Doesn't he make a fantastic, old-fashioned, Father Christmas?

I used ProMarkers to color and a die from Spellbinders to cut the image.  I inked the edges of the sentiment piece after hand cutting it, then added it.  That whole piece went onto the front of a pre-made, red card base.

For embellishment, I added a glittered, snowflake button and three shiny, glittery packages to the bottom of the card.  I love the gems and gold pearls on those packages.

     Challenges:

Double D
House that Stamps Built (top row)
I {heart} ProMarkers

I hope you'll find some time in the middle of this crazy-busy season to come play in our challenge this week.  We love being inspired by you.  Happy Crafting.  NanaConnie

Naughty List?

Ever wonder how Santa makes his decisions about who goes on the Naughty List?  Here's a hint.

This card is for Day 5 of the daily challenges going on at Catch the Bug's Christmas-in-July all this week.  The last two years, I missed out on a few days of the CIJ challenges but this year I'm faithfully entering each challenge throughout the week, which is why you've been seeing double posts all week long.

I thought this Bugaboo image was perfect and I've had it in my collection long enough that it qualifies as an "old" image.  I think I've used it once before.  :-D  For today, their theme is based on this inspiration photo and they want to see something humorous, too.

I did another really CAS card by printing the main image and the sentiment right onto the card front and then coloring it with my ProMarkers, plus a little sparkly gel ink.  After I had that much done, I realized I could add to both the humor and the inspiration by using a Santa image and a Reindeer image, and I knew I had both in my collection of Bugaboo Stamps.  So I found them, made them considerably smaller, colored them, and added them to the card front, but seemingly in the distance.  Their expressions were perfect for the sentiment.

     Challenges:

That's it for today.  Happy Stamping.  NanaConnie

Santa Skiing

Friday, tomorrow is Christmas Eve, and we have another challenge that starts today at QKR Stampede.  Our theme is "Santa" and we're all waiting to see him with his sleigh and reindeer.  However, I want you to know that there are secondary arrangements made just in case the reindeer get sick or refuse to fly on Christmas Eve.  Here's evidence that Santa is a master on the skis although he may be running late to those areas without snow for Christms!

I used Digi 16702 Santa Skiing and Digi 8717 Merry Christmas; colored the image with my Copics (because they have the best reds of any of the alcohol markers) and then used a red CS frame, die cut with a die from Impression Obsession.  The frame is actually something I would normally have thrown away after cutting another very intricate piece, but I was working on more than one card that morning and, as I looked at the outer frame piece, I saw that it could be used to frame the Skiing Santa so I distressed the edges, layered it on top of the image and made a tiny curl on one corner.

I added the two bits of sparkly twine, one red and one gold, and tied them together in the upper corner.  I added the hand-cut and matted sentiment, then left it very CAS so that it can be easily mailed.  It makes a great masculine card.

Have a Merry "Pink" Christmas

It's Friday morning and a new challenge has begun at QKR Stampede.  This week, we want to see you do something Christmas but in "Non-traditional Christmas colors."  I chose the brightest pinks I could find!

The image is a wonderful silhouette, Digi 15705, Sleigh and Reindeer and the sentiment is Digi 13806, Merry Christmas.  I printed both the image and sentiment together onto pink CS, and used a black ProMarker to ink the edges of the die cut rectangle.

I layered the image piece onto bright pink, polka dot dp, and mounted that whole thing onto burgundy mulberry paper.  I found the snowflake and snowman buttons in my stash and added them, along with some pale pink fibers as the embellishments.

Down the Chimney

One more card for the Holiday Chaos challenges, Day 4 at Catch the Bug.  The theme today is CAS = Clean As Snow.  :-D

This card has clean snow (with white glitter on the snow and the star) and it's another of my CAS designs.  It has a colored image (ProMarkers) which was die cut (Bo Bunny), an embossed frame (also Bo Bunny), a thin strip of ribbon, and a handmade bow for embellishment.

Here's another Bugaboo card and this one is done for the Catch the Bug Holiday Chaos, Day 5 - "Humor."

I started with the sketch from Outlawz.

I dearly love all the Crab Cat images and this one isn't actually intended to be a Christmas image but I was pretty sure it would work as one with that sentiment I made up and with traditional red and green colors.

He's colored with ProMarkers, and die cut with a die from Cheery Lynn.  The doily is also a Cheery Lynn die cut.  The twine has been in my Christmas stash for nearly 3 years and I decided it was time to use some of it.

     Challenges:

I hope you're not tired of double post days yet.  I still have at least one more day of 2 posts.  Does it help that I've been alternating between holiday and non-holiday cards?  :-D  Happy Stamping.  NanaConnie

'Tis the Season

Today I'm sharing another of my cards with die cuts instead of a colored image and I rather like this one.  I'm disappointed in the photo because the glittery sparkle just doesn't show up but all of the white bits are cut from glittered CS.  IRL, it shines and sparkles incredibly!

The snowman, candy cane, the smaller tree and the gift are all from Cheery Lynn dies.  The sentiment and Santa's sleigh/ reindeer are cut with dies from Die-Versions.  The large, layered tree is done with a die from Dee's Distinctively.  Everything is mounted onto a red card front and the white sleigh is mounted on dimensional dots.

That's all I have for today.  Christmas is creeping closer and closer and all of my working ahead during September and October has really paid off.  My stash of Christmas cards is really close to the number I need and, since I haven't been able to do much crafting lately, that's a good thing!  Happy Stamping.  NanaConnie

Christmas Around the World

I hope all of you in the U.S. had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day and I want to share a card which might inspire you to get a start on those Christmas cards which you still need to make.  Only five more weeks, can you believe it?

This is from my DT Inspiration post from the MHK Designs blog.

For this one, I used the globe image from the "Rock My World" set and "Distressed Dots" dp from the "Glorious Gardens digital papers" (see photos of the sets below.)  First I printed the paper, then ran the paper through my printer a second time to print the globe directly on top of it.

I used a die set from Die-Versions to cut the Santa and Sleigh twice, once in brown and once in eggshell white, then layered them together, slightly offset.  I  printed and matted the sentiment.  In finishing, I added only the three red pearls in each corner and the single red bow, wanting the focus to be on the image, not the embellishments.

Christmas in July

QKR Stampede has a new challenge starting today and we're celebrating "Christmas in July."  Last month, I finally started my stash of Christmas cards and this challenge gives me the opportunity to add to it.  Most years, I have at least half of my cards made by this time but I'm really behind this year.

I started with two wonderful digis, a Santa for the chimney (Digi 16714 "Santa Bear") and a snowman for the yard (Digi 8715 "Merry Christmas.")  I colored with my ProMarkers, cut with dies from Spellbinders, and added offset, die cut, mats to each image.  The grosgrain ribbon was a scrap in my stash and snowflakes were left over from last year's Christmas cards.  This was a pretty fast and simple design and I have added one more to the stash.

     Challenges:
613 Avenue Create
Christmas Cards All Year Round
Colour Your World
Crimbo Crackers
Lil Patch of Crafty Friends
Outlawz Greetings
Outlawz Twisted Thursday
Winter Wonderland

Come play along this week, won't you?   You don't have to use QKR Stampede images, but if you do, your card will be put into a separate drawing and that will increase your chances of winning.  Hope to see you playing.  Happy Stamping.  NanaConnie

Please continue to leave comments.  The "Word Verification" really isn't on.  BLOGGER INSISTS ON SHOWING THE "CAPTCHA" ICON BUT IF YOU IGNORE IT AND JUST PUBLISH YOUR COMMENT, IT WILL POST JUST FINE.  I WISH I COULD GET RID OF IT BUT THERE'S NO OPTION FOR THAT WHEN THE COMMENTS ARE WRITTEN IN A SEPARATE BOX.  SORRY.

Do Penguins Wait for Santa?

I've never been able to confirm that penguins are excited about Santa's visits but this little guy seems to think it's worth watching the skies.  :-D  It's a Bugaboo image and this is the first card I've been able to get done in their week of Christmas themed challenges.  This one is for Catch the Bug's "Here Comes Santa" challenge.

I colored with ProMarkers and die cut the image with one of my Stitched Rectangle Dies (Memory Box.)  I added two layers of mats and adhered it all onto a pre-made, colored, card base.  I used three little snowflakes, punched from red CS.  Hard as it is to see in the photo, I added glitter to the snow and to the snowflakes.  I left it CAS, partly because it's going to be a card for a guy.

Vintage Santa

Second past today but I'm using another image from MHK Designs this afternoon and I just couldn't wait to share it.  I started out wondering if I could do a CAS vintage card.  Those seem to be such opposites in my mind but I think this works.  What do you think?

I pulled my colors from the challenge at House that Stamps Built.

dec15cc

The image and the "Santa Claus..." sentiment are printed together onto the card front for a single layer card.  I used ProMarkers to color the image, and then added gold glitter to the candle flames on the tree.  The "Jolly Christmas..." sentiment is done in shiny gold so the card has both shine and sparkle.  Everything is bordered in red CS so maybe this isn't technically a 'single' layer card.

Santa with Sparkles

This cheerful Santa is another image which I found in my stash, already printed/stamped and ready to color.  Like the turkey image on the card I posted a couple of days ago, I have no idea who drew it.  I forgot to label it when I printed it and my memory fails me today.  If anybody knows, please tell me because I'd love to give proper credit.  Edited:  Mystery solved thanks to Vicki!  It's a retired SU stamp which I no longer have.  I sold or gave away all but about a dozen of my rubber stamps when I was packing to move to my current home.  :-D

I used the sketch from the Outlawz Sketch Challenge.

Santa is colored with ProMarkers and I added glitter to the fur and pompom on his hat.  I wish I could figure out what's going on with my camera that I can't seem to photograph sparkle very well.  This photo (and all the others I tried) is so disappointing but IRL, his sparkle is fabulous.  :-D  Edited to add:  I finally managed to get a shot of the sparkle and here it is:

I fussy cut Santa and mounted him on dimensional dots to red CS, die cut that and added it to a black die cut a size larger.  I put that entire piece onto the card after using two different papers to make the background and the diamond shape dp, and put on the wrapped twine.

My favorite things on this card are the reindeer and sleigh plus the tree and snowman in the corners.  Can you believe those are all buttons?  I had to cut off the shanks and sand down the left over little bumps but I love the depth and dimension they give to the card without being 'too much' by way of embellishment.  Those have been in my stash for longer than I care to admit.  :-D
