Things Found in a Pond or Creek

We have a new challenge and a new theme starting today at FarmQuest, and the theme is "Things Found in a Pond or Creek."  My dad would have immediately thought of fish because he loved fishing more than nearly any other outdoor activity and I often got to join him on those fishing treks.  Oh, what fabulous childhood memories!

This image is clip art which I printed in sepia tone, then colored with my Sanjoki markers.  The card front was embossed with my Linen EF before adding the image.  I cut the colored image with a die from Spellbinders, and the sentiment was printed and cut with an Avery Elle die.  The strip of polka dot dp came from an old DCWV stack.  Pretty CAS and masculine, and I really like it.  :-D

     Challenges:
Di's Digi Designs

I hope you'll use your creativity and come up with something you might find in a pond or creek, then you can create something fun and enter it into our challenge before July 13.  You could end up taking top honors!

Catching vs Fishing

First of a new month and the first day of the latest challenge at QKR Stampede.  Our theme is always "Anything Goes" and you may use images from any company or artist, just be sure to use an image.  If you do choose to use an image from QKR (or their sister company Eureka Stamps), your card will go into a completely separate draw and that really increases your chances of becoming a winner.  :-D

I used an cute, summer-time image from QKR called "Father and Son Bear."  I colored with my ProMarkers, then cut the image with a Memory Box die.  The sentiment was printed and cut with another Memory Box die.  I mounted everything onto a scrap piece of brown CS, and added a tiny, hand-tied, silver, jute cord bow.  Very CAS but a perfect masculine card.  :-D

     Challenges:

I hope we'll see you playing in our challenge this time.  It runs until the 14th of the month, then a new challenge begins on the 15th.  Happy Crafting.  NanaConnie

Ice Fishing

My dad loved fishing, any day of the week, and time of the year, and that included winter time in the mountains.  Although we didn't live in snow country when I was growing up, my grandfather had a cabin up in the mountains and if we stayed there for a long weekend in the winter months, ice fishing was something he was going to do while we were there.  I used to tease him that all the fish must have gone south for the winter because  I don't remember that he ever caught anything.  lol

Anyway, when I was looking for a Bugaboo Stamps image to use for their color combo over at the Catch the Bug Challenge this week, I saw this Ice Fishing image.  The colors immediately reminded me of my dad's ratty, old, fishing jacket that was stained and had a few patched holes in it but he loved it and always wore it when sitting out on the ice.  He called the color "rusty mustard."  lol  So, even though they aren't winter colors, I chose this Ice Fishing image in honor of my dad.  :-D

I'm still following the "challenge-yourself" idea being promoted by my blogging buddy, V.  It's called "Just Stash January" and it involves using nothing but things already in your stash throughout the entire month of January!  There are a few reasonable exceptions (all of which mean that no money has come out of your pocket) and you can read about those on her post.  Just click on the link above to find out all about it, then start counting those coins and bills you'll be 'stashing' in your pocket this month instead of crying about even more charges on the credit cards after the holiday season.

One Little Fish

Fishing was something my dad loved to do and, as the favorite (only) daughter who was a dedicated 'tomboy' during childhood, I often got to go with him.  I have extremely fond memories of those days spent at the river or a lake or even on the pier at the ocean.  It was delightfully special time with Dad, even when we caught nothing.  It was called 'fishing,' not 'catching.'  :-D

This image from Bugaboo Stamps is one of my favorites.

Rather Fish than Work

This adorable, little bear from Imagine That! proves the point that any reasonable guy would rather fish than work.  To quote someone famous and silly (don't ask me who said it), "Give a man a fish and he'll eat one meal.  Teach a man to fish and he'll sit by the river and drink beer all day!"

Fishing Days

Salute and a good Friday morning, my friends!   We have a new challenge starting over at QKR Stampede today and our theme is always Anything Goes.  It's definitely summer weather around here and I'm getting Father's Day cards done for the three dads in my family (son, SIL, and grandson.)  Anything related to fishing always reminds me of my own dad so I used "Gone Fishing 12601" from QKR for this card.

He always said that any summer vacation had to include a place to fish and he liked it even better if the entire vacation was planned around every day spent fishing.  :-D

I started with a simple A2 card  design.  I love A2 and it's probably my favorite card shape and size because I mail so many of my cards and that's a standard size accepted by the post office with no additional postage.  This one will be in the mail to my son.

I colored with ProMarkers and polychromos pencils, then cut the octagon shape with a die from QuicKutz.  I added a blue, CS, mat behind the image.

The card front is embossed, though that doesn't show very well in the photo.  I added the image piece and then wrapped baker's twine around it.  I printed and hand cut the sentiment, matted it, and then adhered it at the top of the card.  A CAS design, perfect for a masculine Father's Day card.

Kickin' Back Fishing Day

While everyone else in the world was counting crocus buds as the first sign of spring, my dad always said that spring had arrived when you could grab a pole and sneak away for an afternoon of lazy fishing without freezing from sitting still.  :-D  Here's a salute to spring and my dad.

The image is from Anne Fenton at Anne's Digital Art and is the freebie this month for the Progressive Challenge at The Outlawz.

I colored with ProMarkers and cut the image with a pinpoint die from Memory Box.  While the die is a rectangle, it wasn't narrow enough for what I wanted so I cut twice, moving the die to narrow the original cut.

The "quilting" is cut with a Gina Marie die, cutting two different papers and inlaying them to get the quilt look.  I printed the sentiment, matted it, and added it across the quilting.

I used three metallic chevrons on each side.  (Secret - but don't tell anyone - those are metallic, self-stick, photo corners!  I don't mount photos anymore but I have a ton of those still in my stash and they make great embellishments for guy cards.)

Seaside Fishing

I'm lazing at the beach this week, avoiding the continuing heat at home, and probably watching pelicans just like this one!  It's our new challenge today at QKR Stampede and we have our usual "Anything Goes" theme with the optional twist of "By the Seaside."  How appropriate considering where I am.  :-D

My card this week uses the QKR image called "Happy Pelican" and this isn't the first time I've used it.  It's just so fun and funny and perfect for any summertime card.

I colored with ProMarkers and gel pens, then die cut the image and the frame with pinpoint rectangle dies from Memory Box.  The dp is a scrap and I distressed the edges of it with scissors before adding it to the light-blue background.  I also distressed all the edges of the background cardstock.  I wrapped it with sheer, turquoise ribbon before layering it onto the card front, then applied the hand cut sentiment.  Simple, masculine, and fun.

     Challenges:

I hope you're enjoying yourself as much as I am and, for those friends of mine wasting away in the glare of that southwest sun, get inside and craft, you idiots!  What are you doing venturing out in that heat?  What do you think you are, a mad dog or perhaps an Englishman?  lol  Happy Stamping.  NanaConnie

Father's Day Fishing

My dad was a man who never expected any kind of fuss to be made over him, not even on his birthday or Father's Day.  He used both of those occasions every year as an excuse to go fishing and just have quiet time.  Since both his birthday and Father's day were in June and since I was out of school by that time, I got to go with him on many of those occasions.  It was wonderful, father-daughter, quiet time and I still love fishing and enjoying serene, quiet time.

When I discovered our new challenge at QKR Stampede this week had a "For the Guys" theme, I immediately dug out my favorite "Going Fishing" image (Digi 13209) and paired it with the "Fishing Is" sentiment (Digi 12401) as an homage to my dad.  Today would have been his birthday.  :-D

Colors are from The Outlawz Color Challenge.

Blue isn't necessarily required but a monochrome creation is.

I colored the image with ProMarkers, die cut it with a Cheery Lynn stitched die, and inked the edges.  I did the same with the sentiment.  The other two die cut pieces were done with dies from Spellbinders.   The ribbons were in my stash.  Can you tell I've just gone crazy over those 'bow tie' bows?  I seem to be making them for about every third card, give or take.  :-D

Please continue to leave comments.  The "Word Verification" really isn't on.  BLOGGER INSISTS ON SHOWING THE "CAPTCHA" ICON BUT IF YOU IGNORE IT AND JUST POST YOUR COMMENT, IT'LL BE THERE.  I WISH I COULD GET RID OF IT BUT THERE'S NO OPTION FOR THAT WHEN THE COMMENTS ARE WRITTEN IN A SEPARATE BOX.  SORRY.

Fishing

Fishing is one of those things I associate with summer and with my father.  When I was a child, I was the one who loved to get up early, before sunrise, and drive with my dad down to the beach and fish off the pier.  During the summers, we could go fishing not only on the weekends but even during the week because there was no school.  My dad had his own business and could often get away during the week, so summer fishing was special father-daughter time.

This week at QKR Stampede, "Fishing" is the theme for our newest challenge.   I used Digi 16814 "Fishing Boy" for the image and half of Digi 16808 "Hooked on You" as the sentiment.   I wish I could find cute girl fishing images but most of them are boy images.  That's OK.  This is a favorite stamp anyway because it so reminds me of days fishing with my dad.  :-D

I used the sketch from Tuesday Morning Sketches
turned sideways.

I colored the image with ProMarkers, then used a die from Spellbinders to cut it.  I printed out the sentiment and hand cut it so that I could use only the "I'm Hooked" part of it.  It actually says, "I'm Hooked on You."  Wanting to keep the design simple, I used only ribbon and a double bow for embellishment.

Top Tip Tuesday

Come play with us this week.  Remember, you don't have to use a QKR stamp to play so you can dig out any of your stamps or digis that relate to "Fishing" and play along.  However, if you do use a QKR image (and there are so many really cute ones!) you'll be entered into a separate drawing for QKR users only, significantly increasing your odds of winning.  See you then.  Happy Stamping.  NanaConnie
