THE OPERATION WRITE HOME BLOG HOP STARTS ON FRIDAY MORNING SO IF YOU'RE LOOKING AT THIS ON THURSDAY NIGHT, SOME OF THE HOP LINKS MAY NOT YET BE ACTIVE. PLEASE CHECK BACK IN THE MORNING.
Today I have two cards to share and a great blog hop to help raise funds for Operation Write Home. It takes a lot of money to cover all the postage costs for shipping those boxes of hand made cards to our soldiers who serve overseas. If you hop along with us, you can see all the images which are for sale over at the K 'n K Designs blog, and all the proceeds (after the Paypal fees) are being donated by the artists to OWH.
There's also a blog hop prize! Katlyn at K 'n K Designs is generously providing two "digi prize packs" for our blog hop! Two lucky hoppers who comment along the way will win a digi prize pack from K 'n K Designs! Be sure to check Deedee's blog on Monday to see if you have won! The hop will close at 8:00 p.m., Sunday evening, October 23, so that we have time to pick the winners from all the names before announcing the winners on Monday. However, the link for purchasing the digis at K 'n K Designs will remain open until noon, November 1st.
Never heard of Operation Write Home? Here's a blurb from their mission statement:
Supporting our nation's armed forces by sending blank handmade greeting cards to write home on, as well as cards of gratitude to encourage them.
I do lots of cards for OWH and they are one of my favorite organizations so I'm really happy to be part of today's blog hop. First, I'll show you the blog hop order and then share my cards. Each of these ladies has worked hard to show off these wonderful images which can be used to make blank cards for the soldiers to use, or as Any Hero cards, or for every day, any occasion cards for family and friends of yours.
* Operation Write Home is a not-for-profit organization that collects and sends handmade greeting cards to American soldiers for their use in keeping in touch with their families back home. They need to raise $13,000 to cover holiday shipping costs.
* Among other fundraisers going on at the same time, K 'n K Designs will be selling 7 new digi sets designed exclusively for this cause. These include 4 sets by Katlyn Traxler and 3 sets by Deedee Anderson. Each "set" includes an image and some greetings, in both .jpg and .png file formats, all in a zip file.
* These sets are available for just $2 each, or in various value bundles (e.g. get them all for just $10 !), with all proceeds (minus Paypal fees) being donated to Operation Write Home.
* The sets can be purchased at the K 'n K blog (NOT their store) from October 17th thru noon November 1st.
The blog is here: http://knkdesignsblog. blogspot.com/ All purchases will be e-mailed out within 24 hours of payment clearance.
* Those who don't craft, but would still like to aid the cause, can donate directly to OWH. Info on how to do that is available at this page: http://operationwritehome.org/ donate.html
I colored Pickles with my new Touch Twin markers, and colored the stars with a silver paint pen for a little shine. Pickles is fussy cut, layered onto pink CS and fussy cut again, then adhered to a scalloped circle die cut and matted that with a Lacy Circle die cut. With all the matting and embellishments, there are 10 layers on this card. Beyond having all the layers, I tried to keep the design as CAS as possible, so added only buttons in each corner, with one button having a bit of pink baker's twine tied through it.

Just a bit more info before I show off my cards. (Anticipation is half the fun!)

OK, now my two cards and then a list of challenges where I'm going to submit them. I want to spread the word as far as possible and I hope that people who come over from the challenges to leave a comment may decide to hop the hop and/or donate to OWH.
This is Patriotic Pickles and I think she's just adorable! She comes with this sentiment plus one or two others. I used the Fetch-A-Sketch sketch for this card, but turned it on end so that the 'stars' in the sketch would be the stars in the image -- if you stretch it a little in your imagination, that is.
I colored Pickles with my new Touch Twin markers, and colored the stars with a silver paint pen for a little shine. Beyond having all the layers, I tried to keep the design as CAS as possible, so added only buttons in each corner, with one button having a bit of pink baker's twine tied through it. Pickles will go to the following challenges:
Catch the Bug - Animal antics
Totally Gorjuss - Bingo: stars, buttons, pearls (pearl buttons)
Stampin with the Dragon - buttons and bows
Creative Craft Challenges - Congratulations
Ladybug Crafts Ink - Circles, pink and chocolate
Sweet Stamps - Lots of Layers
The Stamping Boutique - Someone Special
My second card:
The sketch for this darling owl card came from Clean And Simple.

This time I colored the image with Copic markers, printed the sentiment (part of the digi set along with others), shape cut it and adhered both of them to a brown CS rectangle. I did a second, long rectangle matted with brown, for the background piece. That long rectangle I wrapped with baker's twine, and add a satin bow made from polka dot ribbon (Really Reasonable Ribbon). I sponged the card front and the layered pieces lightly with distress ink, then distress-inked the edges of the card.
This card will get entered into the following challenges:
Allways Something Creative - brown, orange and distress
Creatalicious - distress edges (ink)
Really Reasonable Ribbon - Fun for Fall - owls are always fun!
CMC Copics Challenge - fall colors
Creative Inspirations Paints - Clean and Simple
Catered Crop - things from the list. I used: fall colors, twine, Copics, ribbon
Corrosive Challenge - flying things
I Did It - animals
OK, your next stop on the hop is Tricia, who has an adorable card to show you with a delightful new digi image. Hop on over. But before you go, be sure to leave a comment so you can be entered in the drawing for the blog hop prize! Be sure to comment on each hop-stop along the way.
Buy a digi or two (or the whole bundle of all of them for only $10) and help out OWH, then tell your friends so they can help out, too.
Thanks so much for your support! NanaConnie

Both of your cards are SO adorable, Connie! I really like how you colored Pickles, just like a real kitty, and the fun way you did the buttons on that card. You made the little owl really stand out with your sweet coloring, and I'm loving the way you wrapped and spanned the twine and added a ribbon on top. So cute!!!
