This is a special day for our team leader, Leah, who should have arrived home from Ethiopia late last night with their newly adopted son, Makaio. In honor of that, the DT has done cards to welcome him home and used them as the samples for the Heart Song Inspirations challenge this week. Leah has no idea we've conspired among ourselves to do that, so we're hoping she'll be delightfully surprised. :-) The theme options for this week's challenge are: Animal or pleated paper/ribbon.
I used a sketch from Midnight Madness.
I used the Heart Song Rocking Horse image for this card and I guess we have to put the emphasis on the "Horse" part since he's supposed to be an animal for this challenge! The image is colored with Copic markers and matted with black CS. Just in case the rocking horse gets classified as a child's toy instead of an animal, I tried paper pleating for the second option in the challenge. I have never done paper pleating before but decided that the metallic paper I wanted to use would make beautiful pleats, even if it's difficult to photograph. I did score it gently before folding it and I ran the pleats all in the same direction instead of making box pleats. I think pleats are easier when you're pinning them into fabric before stitching them down, but then I've done hundreds of fabric pleats in my time and no paper pleats! :-)
The dp is from the 'Sorbet' pad by Colorbok. It's also shiny and has glitter embedded in the butterflies and flowers. It was the inspiration for the color of blue I chose in coloring the Rocking Horse, actually a blue-green. Even if it's not "baby blue", I still think it makes a great baby boy card.
This card is actually on it's way to Leah right now so that she can keep it for Makaio's scrapbook. Once again, Welcome Home, sweet Makaio. We know your mom is so glad to finally have you in her arms!
Won't you join the HSI challenge this week and show us your cards with animals or paper/ribbon pleats or both? Just complete your project and then post it using the linky thingy on the Heart Song Inspirations blog. Doing a baby card isn't necessary, nor is using a Heart Song digi, but if you do either one of those things, we'll smile a lot! Thanks.
Thanks for stopping by and Happy Crafting. NanaConnie
