Operation Write Home has a challenge this week to make Thanksgiving Any Hero cards. An 'Any Hero' card is one that goes in the box of donated cards which are shipped to our troops overseas, but is intended to be given to a soldier who may not otherwise get much mail from home. Most of the cards we make and donate are used by the troops to write home to family and friends. I also used a sketch from OWH as the base for my card.

The pumpkin in the image is paper pieced and then shadowed using markers. The CS and dp are all from my stock of DCWV fall papers and all are matted with brown CS. The ribbon is probably from Really Reasonable Ribbon, but it would be more than a year old. The sentiment is printed from my computer using brown ink. Here Come the Boys has a challenge to use brown and orange and, even though there are other colors here, I think the predominance of brown and orange lets it qualify.
I've written a note inside the card, thanking the service person for their dedication and service to our country. As usual, I simply sign it 'An American' rather than putting a name or address. I want it to represent the feelings of many Americans, not just one person.
Hope you're having a great day. I'm saying prayers for all those along the East Coast who are in the path of Hurricane Irene, that all will be well. I may have more postings over this weekend, but I also need some time for chores. :-) Happy Crafting. NanaConnie

I combined the OWH challenges with the one from Crazy 4 Cocoa, where they want us to use an image of Cocoa or one of his animal friends, plus stripes. I also combined it with the challenge at Really Reasonable Ribbon to do a 'Clean' card design and use ribbon. Clean And Simple cards (CAS) work really well for OWH since they don't have bulky embellishments and the cards fit right into a standard A2 envelope.
