Well, all those Christmas in July theme challenges got me going on holiday cards and I can't seem to stop now. That's OK -- I need a ton of them this year between family/friends and the ones I do for Operation Write Home. If you don't know about OWH, click on their badge on the right hand side of my blog (below the picture of the feline duchess, Cleo, who rules the roost here) and read about all the great work they do giving support to our deployed troops by sending them cards they can use to write home.
I don't really know if today's card is a holiday card or a card about sizzling summer! I'll show it to you and you can decide. Hopefully, you'll find some relation to a sizzling summer since that's the challenge theme over at Really Reasonable Ribbon, plus we have to use ribbon on the card. Of course, it also fits with Paper Play Challenges' "Christmas in August" theme. Sounds like complete opposites, right? Have a look.
Craft Your Passion has a dual challenge, one part of which is "Your Favorite Season." I definitely like winter better than summer but then, I don't live where it snows. I used this week's sketch from Fetch a Sketch (turned on end) and a digi image (Eskimo Joe) from Dude Time Doodles/Bonibleaux Designs.

I colored the image with Copic markers and added a little sparkle to the snowflakes with a gel pen. Even though the image is called "Eskimo Joe", that's really Santa in eskimo garb, trying to dig out his summer transportation. If it was truly Christmas, he'd be digging out his sleigh -- right? The sentiment is mine, printed with a computer font and matted with turquoise CS. I was thinking about all those folks who have been sweltering under 100+ temperatures for the last 40 days without a break! That seems sizzling enough for any challenge!
The background dp is DCWV and I thought it looked enough like snowflakes to work on this card. I used a sparkly, white, very textured ribbon on the left side of the card, then added snowflakes punched from that same turquoise CS.
This card will also get submitted to Stamp Something for their "Use a Digi" challenge and also to Craft Us Crazy for their "Anything Goes." I'm still debating whether or not this card is going in the box for Operation Write Home or if I want to keep it and use it at Christmas for any of the relatives who live where it snows. I have better sense and don't see snow in my yard!
Have a great day. Thanks for your visit and feel free to browse while you're here. Don't forget to give me your vote on summer card or winter card. :-) Happy Stamping. NanaConnie

8 Comments that I appreciate. Thank you.:
Wonderful!!
Regardless when, Eskimo Joe is always a winner! He's one of my favorites! Love what you've done with him.
Love it!! Eskimo Joe is one cool dude! No pun intended. ;)
Haaa! Your sentiment is so true! Fab card!
Tee hee. This is cute, and I vote that it's a winter card. Because in winter we always forget how hard summer was lol.
Cute image and sentiment - love the humor! Thanks so much for sharing your talents with us at Craft Your Passion Challenges. Please come back again soon!
Hugs,
Jodi
Love that sentiment with Joe. We have the hot summers, but no snow (thankfully).
Adorable. Thanks for playing with us at Really Reasonable Ribbon.
