Birthday White on White

This morning's card is one of those that just seems to have made itself !  I started with an inspiration challenge from 4 Crafty Chicks which was this picture.  The challenge is to make a card using whatever inspiration you get from the photo, not necessarily the colors (though the blue and white are lovely together and I may do another card using those colors.)

I saw all those flower pots and they made me think of a Bugaboo image I have with a little girl carrying a flower pot filled with flowers.  So I went to check out the Wacky Wednesday challenge for Bugaboo (on PCP and CDAC) and found out they have a recipe challenge this week: Red, Bling, and a Birthday card for a woman.

I had also been trying to plan a card for the challenge at Crafty Ann's which was "White on White with color in the image only."   I used a sketch from clean&simple, where they also added a twist of using a sticker.  My "Happy Birthday" sentiment is a sticker which I matted with black CS.   CAS-ual Fridays also wants to see stickers on our cards.

I colored only the flowers and her apron in reds (Copics), and used a bit of white Sakura Souffle pen to highlight her shoes and bonnet, and the embossed squares on the card front.  When it came to embellishments, I used the Tic-Tac-Toe challenge at the Bloggers Challenge on Lisa Somerville's blog.  Here's a copy of the tic-tac-toe board they used this week.

I decided on the third, verticle column - Bling/gems, Flowers & Ribbon.  Finally, I followed the challenge at Really Reasonable Ribbon where they want to see a clean card with ribbon.  The sheer ribbon on my card came from Really Reasonable Ribbon.  In order to attach it to my card, I punched out two slots in the middle of the embossed card front, and threaded the ribbon through them, then tied a bow.   I added the white paper flowers, and added rhinestones and pearls to their centers.  The final touch was the row of pearls at the bottom of the image.

I'm going to send this off in the box of cards for Operation Write Home and one of our deployed troops will be able to send a birthday card home to mom or wife or sister.  You can read more about OWH by clicking on the badge on the right side of my blog.  They're one of my favorite organizations and I love making cards for troops to use to stay in touch with home.  After all, the guys and gals in Afghanistan and Iraq can't just drop by a Hallmark store and pick up a card or two.

I hope your weekend is going well.  I'm keeping prayers going for all on the East Coast facing Hurricane Irene.  That includes my grandson and his family (along with the two great grandkids, one of whom is not even a month old yet!) who are in Virginia.  May God hold you in His hands and keep you all safe.  NanaConnie

Oh I LOVE this one! It is amazing how stunning a color white can be, especially with the little bits of red added. The shimmery accents here and there are wonderful, too. Just gorgeous!
