Pocket Mice

What a fun card this is!  I dearly love the image -- it's from Meljen's Designs, and their challenge this last week has been "Pink and Pearls."  I used the sketch from Eat, Sleep, Stamp, and most of you already know that's one of my favorite places for sketches!  Hey to Tracy.  :-)

Sketch 134

The final inspiration for my card design came from The Play Date Cafe for the colors in their challenge -- blueberry blue, a kind of pink-lilac, and creamy white.

Here's my card combining those three:

I colored the image with watercolor pencils, softened with plain water but with a brush that was only damp, not dripping wet.  I wanted some of the pencil lines to remain across the 'denim'.  I fussy cut the image.  I used a Nestie die (scalloped oval) to cut pale lilac CS and colored the edges with pink (colored pencil) before taking it out of the die.  I used water to soften all the pencil lines this time, then applied the focal image to the oval.  I puffed it up a bit by putting a little cotton batting behind the denim pocket before I adhered the edges of the image to the oval.  I layered that onto a blue, textured CS rectangle with large pop dots.

I chose to make a card base out of pink CS (from Gina K), and found a DCWV dp in dark blueberry with a gentle pattern in it.  I cut it into a triangle and adhered it to the card base.  Then I put the rectangle panel onto the card base.

For embellishments, I use a straight "swirl" of pearls (can you have a swirl that's straight???)  at the bottom of the card, and added three pearls to the pocket stitching.  Then I chose the flowers and added one blue and two pink flowers to the bottom corner and one blue to the top corner.

I just adore these two little mice cuddling together in a pocket!  What a great mind Melissa has for designing cute and clever images.  I'm grateful for her talent since mine doesn't lie in that area!  I get to benefit from her artistic flair.  :-)

We're at the mid-way point of the week, and I can barely wait for it to be weekend again.  I have no plans except crafting and sewing (and sleeping!).  Maybe I'll pretend I'm already fully retired and have no other obligations.  Soon, yes, soon now.  Thanks for stopping by.  I love your visits!  Happy Creating.  NanaConnie

Hey back at ya Connie! *wink* What a CUTE card!!! Love, love, love the pocket of mice. Your coloring is fantastic (as always!) I need to break out my watercolor pencils. They were what I used when I started stamping. The roses and pearl embellishments are the icing on the cake. Perfect!! Thank you for playing along this week!!
Hugs,
Tracy
