Operation Write Home's Mid-Week Throwdown is to do cards with a "Love You" theme. This little image from Meljen's Designs just grabbed me so it had to be used. At Meljen's, we're supposed to use plaids or stripes. The sketch I used is from Incy Wincy.

Believe it or not, the first thing I did was to pick out the plaid dp before I did anything else. I love the blues and deep yellow-green in it, and built my card around it. I know most of you probably work that way, but that's really different for me. I usually start with the colors for my image and then work out from there.
Since this card will be going to Operation Write Home (read more about them by clicking on the link above or the badge to the right), and since my next box of cards won't be mailed until early September, I decided that a fall image would be just fine.
The image is colored with Copics, die cut with a Spellbinders scalloped circle, matted on a larger die cut circle, and finally matted onto the plaid dp, which was die cut with a Spellbinders Labels 15 die.
I chose to make the card base from yellow-green CS from Gina K (again -- I never remember the color names of the CS!) For some reason, it photographed darker and more olive than it is IRL. I kept trying but couldn't get it to photograph the actual color it is. Trust me when I say that the blues and the CS really do look good together!
I cut a strip of cork, rounded the corners with a hand punch, and adhered it across the card front. I added the image and stamped the sentiment with dark blue ink. I highlighted the words with a white, Souffle pen to make the blue ink stand out a little better against the kraft die cut. Of course, the sentiment is what made the card fit the "love you" theme at OWH. Who wouldn't love having that adorable mouse "nuts" about them? :-)
I added the green, gingham bow and the flat rhinestones, adhered with dabs of craft glue so they won't come off, and it was finished.
Hope your weekend is going well and that you are enjoying some creative pursuits. Thanks for stopping by. I have to get back to the organizing of my craft room (which somehow seems to turn into an hour of organizing and then being distracted into making a card before getting back to the clean up.) I have to get it finished before I can undertake my 'great-new-adventure' -- more news on that next week. :-) Happy Crafting. NanaConnie

Such a precious card, Connie! That plaid paper is wonderful -- I can totally see why you worked from there this time. Great image to go with it, and terrific coloring! I'm fascinated by the cork accent -- what a great idea!
