This week, Dude Time Doodles is sponsoring the challenge at Paper Playtime to use a Red, White, and Blue color scheme. Since I dearly love DTD, I chose their 'Gladys Salt' image to do a card that, while not a patriotic card (which is what we tend to think of when handed the colors of our flag), still uses the colors in a fun way. The Play Date Cafe wants us to use these colors for their challenge.

Isn't Gladys an absolute hoot? I know each and every one of us has had her in our life -- a teacher, a librarian, a great-aunt -- and we've never forgotten her salty expressions. :-) I colored her with Copic markers, making sure she had gray hair for the PDCC challenge. I matted her onto slate blue CS from my stash, and added a short panel of pattern dp below the matted image.
The dots down the side are done freehand with a white gel pen. The sentiment is printed from my computer and adhered to the dp. The finishing touch was the one embellishment of a polka dot bow to complement the red in the image.
This is a really clean and simple design not just because of the sketch challenge but also because 4 Crafty Chicks wants us to do CAS with only two layers! My image has two layers and the dp panel has two layers (not counting the ribbon.) But I had to do the ribbon so I could submit this to Catch the Bug's challenge for red, white & blue plus a ribbon. In addition to those challenges, Moving Along with theTimes and Dutch Dare Card Challenges have challenges for CAS cards.
OK, this is my new high total for combining challenges (previous was 5, I think) but with that many CAS challenges and the addition of the red and blue color palettes, they made it pretty easy this week.
