Hedgehog Blues

I don't know if hedgehogs ever get the blues but this Penny Black stamp seemed perfect for one of the cards I made for the next box which will be going to Operation Write Home.  I used the weekly sketch from Operation Write Home and followed two challenges involving Penny Black stamps.  First the sketch:

The two challenges are Penny Black Saturday Challenge to use images of "Pesky Critters" and the month-long, June challenge at Penny Black at Allsorts to use your favorite PB stamp.  I could pick any one of her hedgehogs and it would be my favorite for the moment! Here's my card.

I may have gotten myself into a monochrome rut last week that's still running.  :-)  I think I did about 8 of them for the shipment that went to OWH on Saturday.  But, I like this one very much, and I also think monochromatics and CAS go well together.

I did very little coloring on the image after heat embossing it with black detail EP, but I did use watercolors on the hedgie and his flower.  Everything else, I left alone.  The butterfly is also from that same Penny Black set and it's heat embossed on blue CS but not colored in any way.  I die cut the hedgie image and the butterfly image with Spellbinders (Nesties) scalloped circles (in different sizes for the hedgie image, and of the same size for the butterfly.)   I used a pre-made, smoke blue, card base, added the two different dp strips (one on top of the other), then layered the hedgie image on top of the dp.  The butterfly image I layered, offset, onto the white circle, and tucked the edge of it under the edge of the hedgie circles.

The tiny flowers along the dp strip and the printed-and-matted sentiment were the final touches.  Very simple in design but perfect for a card going to OWH.  Lightweight, not too bulky, no glitter, and fits easily into an A2 envelope.  When I mail my cards, I always include the envelopes so that OWH doesn't have to spend money buying envelopes for the cards.

Have a great week.  I'm not sure how many, if any, posts I'll get done between now and Thursday but I'm only temporarily MIA.  Vacation days start on Thursday and I promise some postings then and over the weekend, even if I have to schedule them ahead!  Happy Creating.   NanaConnie
