OK, I discovered the Michelle Perkett Studio blog and the challenges there and also joined her group on Paper Craft Planet (having been invited to do that more than 3 weeks ago -- I'm slow!) Both of those things led to this card done for the current Perkett challenge, but using an old sketch I saw on the PCP Perkett discussion forum. First, here's the sketch.

Over on the Michelle Perkett Studios blog, the challenge is to do a Father's Day card in brown and neutrals. Since most of Michelle's digis are on the feminine side, it was a real challenge to think in terms of a masculine card, but I found this lovely "Rose" image, a freebie from Michelle at the PCP forum discussions, and ideas began to gel. "Rose" is the girl.

The image is printed twice, once on white paper and once on beige paper. I colored the image on the white paper with Copics and then paper pieced the apron and bodice parts of the dress. I punched the image using the largest Spellbinders "Nested Leaves" die and lightly sponged on Tim Holtz distress ink, Tea Dye, while it was still in the die. Clearly Inspired Challenges has "Distressed" as its theme, and I chose to use distressed inks for this card.
I also punched a large Lacy Circle (also Spellbinders) out of dark brown CS. I attached the image to the Lacy Circle.
I chose two different dps from my stash (it may have been DCWV from an older pad) and used a Q-Tip to brush on a light bit of Tea Dye ink around the edges of both papers, giving it a slightly distressed look. I layered the polka dot paper strips onto the darker brown, pattern paper, then laid the dark brown, vinyl "lace" across both of those and attached it to the back. Then I layered on the focal image.
The sentiments are mine, printed from my computer using that same beige paper and adhered them to the upper and lower corners of the card. Suddenly, what seemed like a feminine card became a Father's Day card! That was what had been perking in my mind from the first moment I saw little Rose in all her prettiness. :-) The final touch was the little white brads next to the sentiments.
What do you think? Does it meet the challenge of a Father's Day card using brown and neutrals? For my first try at the Michelle Perkett challenges, I'm rather pleased! I'm going to go shop for more of her images, but probably not until late this week. It's either very late at night or very early morning right now and I am not going to get enough sleep before tomorrow's (today's now) duties at work beckon me. :-)
Thanks for stopping by. I always enjoy your visits. Happy Crafting. NanaConnie
