Birthday Tiger

This is another card that will be going to Operation Write Home so that one of our servicemen or women can send it home as a birthday wish for a boy.  If you're not familiar with that wonderful organization, please click on the link above or on the badge on the right-hand side of my blog to find out how they help support our deployed troops with the help of cardmakers just like us.

I started with this sketch from Clean&Simple, and an image from Dustin Pike at Doodle Dragon, where the theme is "It's a Boy Thing."

I chose this wonderful tiger image because what young boy isn't facinated by tigers and other big cats?  In addition, Delightful Challenges has a 'Jungle' theme this week and that certainly includes tigers!  I did the whole card in subtle neutrals so that the tiger image would really pop.

I'd love to take credit for the fantastic coloring on this image but this time I used a pre-colored image.  I was just running out of time last night and it was faster to do it that way.  Besides, the shading is great on this tiger.  I printed it onto white paper and matted it with black CS from Gina K.

I chose patterend dp for the background that looked like leaves you'd find on a jungle plant (DCWV).  I added two short strips of a border die cut to each end of the dp, layered on the focus image and adhered the entire thing to the card base of dove gray CS from my stash.  The sentiment was printed from my computer, matted with black and attached to the card.  No embellishment or bling this time.  I wanted to see if I could actually stay as close as possible to the sketch, and I like the end result.  Partly because the dp has such a large and busy print, I think anything more would have been too much.

Tuesday Throwdown wants to see animals on our projects for their challenge this week.

The next two days are going to be busy so if I manage to get any posting done tomorrow or Thursday, it will be because I stayed up late and sacrificed sleep!  And we all know how important beauty sleep is!  LOL  Glad you stopped by for a visit and I'll see you in a couple of days.  Happy Stamping.  NanaConnie

That is a great tiger, and he really stands out against your jungle print papers. I love it when you do masculine cards, because these are the hardest for me, and I so appreciate the inspiration! :-)
